Don, I love the way the ferrule blends the stem and shank together. It's gorgeous I really can't tell. Is it a briar ferrule, or just very skillful use of masking against the blast?

I have 2 Brakner Billiards, on my similar looking billiards, it is masking against the blast. Congratulations on the find, Don!

Congratulations! That's a great looking pipe. Is it a briar ferrule, or just very skillful use of masking against the blast? I have 2 Brakner Billiards, on my similar looking billiards, it is masking against the blast. Congratulations on the find, Don! That's not a blast. It's Brakner's trademark "Antique" rustication.

Good clarification....sometimes the weeds get deep with the terminology... the micro rustication by Peter can only be fully appreciated in hand, it never translates as well on a picture.

Holy shite. That's a rustication? In the photos, it's so delicate, so ornate, I assumed it was a blast. What I had thought was a very fine piece may, in fact, be superlatively fine

Congrats! A beautiful Brakner Antique indeed. May you enjoy it fully and often. I love the microrustication that is typical of Brakners. I've got one myself, which I love, and is similar to yours.

don, that is one gorgeous pipe. The detail is awesome, and I agree with @cosmicbobo, I love the blending of the stem, ferrule, shank. How does it smoke?

As Anthony pointed out, it is very careful micro-rustication.

My other Brakners are great smokers, but are all bent pipes. I hope to enjoy this one later today and will let you know how it is. I anticipate a great smoke out of it.

I don't recall how I first found out about Brakners, but have a mild obsession about them. I refuse to pay more than $100 for them, and have got all of mine for less than that. There are eBay sellers selling very dirty, caked Brakners for way too much money. Patience is the key with any search for a particular estate pipe. At any rate, they are superb smokers and generally have modest bowl sizes. The craftsmanship is top notch.
