I wrote rather highly of English Oriental Supreme recently. SP was out of it, so I tried English Luxury. Two words that always nail me (for good or bad) are "Luxury" and "Deluxe". It has always been my deeply held belief that these words impart magical superiority over the regular product. Williams Shaving Soap v Williams Luxury Shaving Soap. Winner. Aftershaves and colognes, the same. Unfortunately this is not always true in tobacco. In fact, tobacco tastes are the antithesis of this, the Murphy's Law, the "I got the money; you got the gate." I won't go into other examples, but the tobacco of the moment is English Luxury. This can easily be an all day tobacco. It is not bad. You want Lat. You got Lat. However, this appears to be a one trick pony. There are no undertones. That wonderful, almost "Penzancy" Hwang Factor that EOS has, this is one ran out of pocket change when the Creator was handing out the Hwang. That may be why it is starting to taste more like ash on the way down.
I'll give some of my favorites here not in order: PS English Oriental Supreme, Kramer's Danny Kaye, Arango Balkan Supreme (moved up on my list), and some of Iwan Reis's house blends that are unique, though they have wisps of topping on them. I have not tried the straight English blends.
English Luxury is not even close to the above. Yet you can smoke it all day... there is that

Stokkebye's English Oriental Supreme...pretty good, but not overwhelmingly so.

English luxury is more kin to the frogs cellar than it is to penzance. It has a liquor topping that I havent been able to place and is a lot more gentle on the orientals.

I didn't catch any topping, but that's not to say I got all I should have out of it. I still have 4 ounces minus a few bowls to see what else there is

Thanks, David. I like PS EOS, and Arango Balkan a lot. If luxury falls flat in comparison, I might not spend the money I was going to spend on it.

I think EOS is far superior to English Luxury but neither anywhere near as good as Arango Balkan Supreme.

We don't have many ps offerings in the uk, but the kentucky Maroon that I had last night was great. Maybe it's just because other external factors came together.
But I get your thoughts on adding the words, 'luxury' and 'deluxe'. It's a clever mind game.

Look at these two tobacco like this. They are not at the top of the list. Also they are not at the bottom. I would dare to say someplace in the middle. There has to be something that people enjoys in them. And keeps going back for more.

EOS Should be near the top of many lists. And Elux has just been compared to Frog Morton Cellar. That makes both very worthy of someone's approval, which you just said. And, yes, everything between the very best (only one) and very worst (only one) is in the middle. My twin is everything is black and white. I am all over shades of gray. So, to me, the shades of gray in the middle leave much room for hidden greatness. EOS is that, to me.
Today there is no day or night Today there is no black or white Today there is no dark or light Only shades of gray
PS - All of that said, I would never tell my twin he is wrong. For how he sees things he is right. We live in two different worlds

Good review.
PS English Luxury is a mild smoke, almost bland in comparison to Rattray's Accountant's Mixture which is my benchmark for a Vriginia/Latakia misture without Orientals. PS EL is a good all day smoke and I often take it with me in a pouch when travelling.

toshtego rather nails it, and though I don't change my thoughts on taste, I am smoking this and enjoying it. First, it's bedside, so it's in reach. Second, it is totally non-offensive... and sometimes for tobacco... that works

I’ve yet to try Luxury. I recently bought a few ounces of Oriental English. It’s was ok, but I wasn’t overly impressed. I’ve jarred the remainder and will leave it alone for 6 months. Now Balkan Supreme is in a class by itself. Dramatwist sent me a sample a few months ago, and I was blown away. I immediately bought a pound. I cannot decide if it’s better than BlackHouse. Regardless,’its dam close. I love that it’s sold in bulk. $40/pound vs $90/pound for BlackHouse makes it very appealing. *** BlackHouse is currently on sale for about $9 per tin at P&C. I

I like English Oriental Supreme but havent tried English Luxury. I dont see myself ordering more any time soon though. PS Proper English hits my buttons better and I have a couple pounds of that already.
Balkan Supreme has a better flavor to me than Blackhouse. Both are good tobaccos though.

I’ve purposely avoided this thread because I knew what would happen. I have Arango Balkan Supreme, but now I’ll be ordering English Oriental Supreme and Proper English. All these blends sound like they are going to be favorites.

All these blends sound like they are going to be favorites. When I first knew anything about tobacco, five minutes ago, I would have thought Balkan was English. Even with the same ingredients there is a tad difference. Balkan and EOS are two different animals. I happen to like EOS better, but have some ABS, too. English Luxury is one I coming around to because it has no sweet/sour to it. It's a dry woody smoke. And there are times that's good. Like Captain Black Gold. Just a regular blend with no extra, at least I get none in CBG
