The Arizona Pipe club will have a pretty decent showing this year, so we put together a dinner date for Saturday night, I have just sent out an email polling the members about what our choices are on the grounds of the Palace Station restaurants and waiting to hear back. Our dinner will take place on Saturday night Nov. 10th (7PM) since we have some late arrivals on Friday night. Next year we hope to plan on doing ours on Friday night so as to not conflict with the WCPS dinner. We decided to do at the hotel so that we don't have to deal with transportation issues, and long walks for anyone with mobility issues.... next year if we go off site we will factor that also.As soon as the club casts their votes I will post here by Wednesday night, and find out if any are willing to risk being seen with us. www.westcoastpipeshow.com/

You are in the lab so much, your wife said the street was changed to 1313 mockingbird lane.

There are a million places to get a great meal in Vegas, any of the celebrity chef places you see on tv though, you better get advance reservations....I didn't get much feedback from the Arizona pipe club for a meal, so I scratched putting together an official meal for the club but that doesn't mean that some of us cannot get together...here is some info I was able to find out about the restaurants....although I used Yelp! to get reviews, that is all I really had to go on.... I strictly looked at what is available at the hotel so as to avoid transportation hassles...this is a copy and paste of the email that I sent out:

I don't know if things have changed with the renovation but since the Charcoal room reopened a few years ago the hotel has coupons for something like $30 dollars off a purchase of $60 that I've used multiple times a weekend. They changed up the menu last year and I was not as happy with the food in the past. Tony's has always been disappointing. The pizza is ok, the pasta soso at best but the service is usually very slow. This will be my 8th visit to The Palace Station for the Pipe Show and IMO the Oyster Bar has the best non steak food I've had in Vegas. The House Pan Roast is outstanding and the Gumbo is great! I always go Thursday and Monday mornings to avoid the line. I always enjoy the hotdogs in the sports book. They come out of the wrapper steam hot and delicious!

Thanks for checking in....that definitely helps out....sad to hear about "OK" pizza, it is pretty easy to make really good pizza if you are in the business...I will have to check out the coupons for the charcoal room. I forgot about the hot dogs...super cheap for a can of beer and a hot dog.

I just listened to the pipe and tamper podcast, where the guest was Brian Levine.
He said that the pipe show will be in a hall on the new wing, it will not be where it was in the past.
He also made a good point, there is a convenience store/Gas station across the parking lot, he said bottled water is $2.50 in the casino, just buy a case from the convenience store for $6 and put it in our room...not a bad idea for beer either. If you are not used to being in the southwest, drink more water than you think you need...always good to be hydrated if you have alcohol anyway.

I'll be at the show and will be bringing two spectacular straight grain pipes made by Ken Barnes. For those of you not familiar with the name, Ken's father was the General Manager of Charatan, where Ken trained. Later, Ken went on to co-found James Upshall with Barry Jones. Ken was considered one of the finest cutters in the business and his ability exploit the best that a block of briar has to offer has rarely been equaled. Ken took a break from pipe making to pursue other interests and has returned to pipe making, patiently building up a stock of very high grade briar with which to make his pipes. If you love classic shapes and extraordinary straight grain, catch me during the show and I'll be happy to show them to you. Ken's pipes are not yet available in the US, but distribution is being arranged, so Rick Newcombe and little ol moi are the only two people in the US who have Ken's pipes.
See you at the show!

After 5 days of smoke filled fun we arrived home at 3am this morning. It was a long day but another good year at my 8th WCPS in Las Vegas. I was happy to have only found one pipe that I wanted and I picked up a NOS Dupont Maxi Jet lighter with a leather case and some other Dupont extras at a great price from the Kramer Pipe Shop that closed in LA.
The show has really shrunk in the last few years. Early on it looked like this could develop into a show like Richmond once was. IMO the walk in was pretty good Saturday morning but it slowed down in the afternoon and Sunday. The lounge was smaller but seemed to be busy both days. There were some very nice pipes and other stuff donated to the raffle but I didn't win anything for the first time.
Our two dinners at the Oyster Bar were outstanding as usual. I didn't enjoy my meal at the Boat House but my wife's was pretty good. The Charcoal room was very good and a great value with the coupon. The marathon f'd up our off site dinner plans and we ended up at Tony's. My Caesar Salad and meatball sandwich were much better than my wife's lasagna. The Grand Cafe was closed for renovations. I missed the cakes and pastries at the counter more than the sit down food but we tried the new buffet for breakfast one morning but was not impressed.
The new sports bar was a great gathering spot. Better than Jack's in the past or much better than nothing last year. The renovated hotel rooms were nice and a huge upgrade over the nasty old rooms but still lacked a coffee maker and refrigerator. Our group had corner Jr suites on the smoking floor and we spent most of our time up there at night. The smoke filled room with the guys is the best part of a pipe show weekend!

Thanks for the update! I talked to someone else that made a nice score at the Kramer table. Mike from the Pipe and Tamper podcast was planning on doing some roving interviews that he is suppose to edit and post soon... I was looking forward to meeting him, and the rest of you hombre’s... That DuPont looks like a great cigar lighter.

Stopped by the IMP table and showed them 2 Meers and asked them if they could date them. I was told that both Meers were made in Vennia between the years of 1850 and 1870. I had a feeling the were old but wasn't sure. One of them is a Victorian Lady with a half bent stem, the other is a nosewarmer carved with a woman feeding her chickens and has cornstalks behind her.
