So here is a fresh burn mark on my shirt. It happened just now and is the third time I have ever done this. Each time I was wearing old clothing so no big deal. Still, does this happen to anyone else? Lie to me if you must.

This is one of many reasons I'm fond of windscreens.

Put a hole in an old pair of beach shorts smoking out on the beach last time I was at the coast, so it's not just you

Not while smoking a pipe but with a cigar , a brand new synthetic polo , that put an instant hole right near the collar.. Synthetic material loves to burn quick. I have resorted to cotton tee shirts and flannels when its cooler. Or If I am out I am very careful..

It has happened to me a number of times in the past 50 years. I’ve burned holes in two good winter jackets and endless shirts. One pair of dress slacks a few years ago. Right now I’m wearing a fairly new western shirt, one night last week while sitting outside on the deck I did “ a puff back “ to keep the pipe lit and didn’t notice a hot ember landed on my shirt and burnt a large hole. Once I felt my chest burning it got my attention immediately.....it was to late the damage was done. I’m sure it won’t be my last garment to end up “ holy “!

Never happened with a shirt, but I almost burnt my bible the other day from a fly-away tobacco ember.

Never happened with a shirt, but I almost burnt my bible the other day from a fly-away tobacco ember. Paddy. Isn’t that taking fire and brimstone a bit far? LOL. The weather is much cooler now. So I’m getting out old sweatshirts and fleeces to sit outside and snoke. if it’s not moths, it must be burn holes!

One of my grandpa's smoked a pipe when I was young. I remember three things about those days;what the pipes looked like because I was infatuated with them, the cherry smell of his tobacco...so wonderful and lastly all the burn holes in his shirts and on the seat of his work car lol. He was a traveling seed salesman and was always smoked in the car with the window down. I am sure this is where all the damage was done. I can also remember my sweet grandma folding laundry and you would here "Don! You burned a hole in one of your good shirts...you and that darned pipe!". Ahh the memories.

Perhaps this was the reason for ....wait for it...Smoking jackets...there I said it. I've burned holes in many a shirt in the years past...holes that looked suspiciously like...seed holes. Some will know of what I speak. Now that isn't the reason...now it is flying embers from my pipe. I try to wear old clothing when I am smoking my pipes.....since I am a hermit as is my wife as well, it isn't a big problem...I don't go out except to go to the grocery store or post office...now I, to quote Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind,...I don't really give a damn.

I don't have too much of a problem with burning holes in my shirts/sweaters, mostly because I mostly wear cotton an wool. Ya can brush off a spark before it burns. I do have a couple of fleece pullover that I am very careful with, th that synthetic fleece burns thru like it has nitrate on it.

Burned a hole in an otherwise good jacket the other evening while striking a match. The head broke off and landed in my lap. The synthetic outer layer now has a "badge of courage" near the bottom edge. And I have a couple of pipe lighters on the way.

It has mostly happened to me while lighting the pipe and the tobacco rises more than I expect it too.

This is one of the main reasons my grandmother hated my grandfather's pipe smoking, all the little holes she's find in his clothes.
Unfortunately for me when he died a few years ago she broke all of his pipes and threw them in the garbage.

Darin told me about cube cut tobaccos....but he never told me that they grow out of the bowl...Saul Goodman esquire has taken my case. My burnt skinny jeans was the last straw.

Between burn holes from my pipes and paint drips/hand wipes from my job... I barely own any "new" clothes. My good clothes are the ones with the least amount of paint on them. I dont mind though, it's just who I am.
Today when I left that horrible red kitchen I looked like I just killed something.

I wish I had a picture of the seats in my 1965 Rambler Classic. So many holes burned in the seats that I had to give it to my sister.

My ratty old bathrobe smoking jacket wannabee has several such holes. From cigars, pipes, dropped matches, dropped zippo lighters, etc.
I never claimed to be graceful.
