I recently acquired a Falcon pipe,Falcon Shillelagh Twisted Green Tube Tobacco Pipe, with rustic genoa bowl.It shocked me how light it was.I was expecting it to feel heavier, but its very light.Smokes cool and easy to clean. This morning for breakfast I had some S&G brown rope #4.Very smooth in this pipe.I followed it up with some CD Bayou Night.Admittedly I am new to pipe smoking and at first I didn't realize how much difference the pipe can make with regard to tobacco taste.I have a few blends with Latakia in them and they have been sitting in a drawer because in some of my pipes the Latakia can be very heavy and overwhelm everything else.I think Latakia may be an acquired taste, sort of like bleu cheese dressing, but once you hit the right combo....its pretty good and the smoke is creamy.
Yesterday I was smoking Firedance which in some of my other pipes I didn't care for,not even sure why I purchased it but its like a dessert in this pipe.Who woulda thought?
I am learning that every pipe is almost as different as every type of tobacco can be, different characteristics can improve or minimize certain tastes or nuances of any tobacco.
That is such an amazing thing to me,so I'm finding its all about getting the right combo together to enhance everything. When I tried Royal Yacht it was really the only one that was consistent in just about every pipe I had...great stuff but now hard to procure.
The other thing I will say about the Falcon is that its very easy to clean.I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Glad your experience with your new Falcon pipe was a positive one!! Itβs a great pipe for traveling, one pipe and 7 bowls in a pouch takes up little room in your luggage. They are great smokers, easy to clean and maintain. Also, when you remove the bowl take a small piece of paper towel and wipe out all the moisture and tar. Now look on Tobaccopipes.com website, they have in stock some beautiful reasonably priced bowls. Congratulations and enjoy ππππ

Im glad it is giving you such joy. You'll need to make a spreadsheet of good pairings so you don't forget.

I recently bought a falcon as well and I love it. I will buy some different bowls in the future. I love how light it is and it smokes great. I think that will be my first pipe of the day. And now to decide on which baccy. Hmm...

Falcon makes a great pipe and I have one owing to the generosity of one of our members here.
The ease of cleaning is apprciated. My only beef is they are shorter than I prefer but can live with it.

I've got both a straight and bent International and love how they look and smoke. I'm most happy with them for blends that are more on the moist side. I dont use the dry rings but gurgle stays low. If it does start to happen its just a matter of removing the bowl, a light tap to get out the moisture and back to puffing.

I make my own dry rings out of pipe cleaners - just cut into smaller sections and curl them to fit.

If you bend the pipe cleaner over onto itself and back again a few times it will break after 4-5 bends.

I agree I just had this really small pair of cutters and they fit perfectly in my bag so that's just what I do.

I did not think I would care for my Falcon, I am a bit of a traditionalist, but I really enjoyed mine. I am already looking for new bowls for the future.

When your ready I know a seller in Florida that ONLY restores metal pipes and he also only smokes metal pipes. Many bowls are available....even XL sizeππ. Take a look at a few videos on Kirsten pipes. How they smoke and proper easy maintenance. Good Luck

I always found Falcons hideous, but as a travel option, I almost have to give one a shot.
Good to see a new member!

I like the option of changing out bowls. After smoking it I am sold. A very solid smoker. I think the shillelagh models look pretty kick arse with color added to the stems.

The international versions look much better, in my opinion.
Tell me this, @lonecoyote (and others - I only mention Ted because he mentioned it)...would a Kirsten be the next league up or is it on a par with Falcon?

A Kirsten is in a league of its own when it comes to metal pipes. A much bigger metal shank chamber so a Kirsten can smoke like a reverse Calabash system. Much cooler smoke than any of my Viking or Falcon pipes. But, I enjoy ALL of my metal pipesπππππ

I checked out the Kirsten Pipes, watched a few videos and seemed pretty interesting.I put in a bid on ebay for a. Kirsten estate pipe.I didn't think I would win because I only bid 21.00
Looks like I will be receiving that bad boy next week, its a first generation type m. I'm hoping I can clean it up a bit and get it in my rotation.I have read that some of them require o rings and some don't.I guess I'll have to wait and see if this one uses them or not.Its my understanding that some of the earlier versions did not use them and depending on the model of the later versions there are 2 sizes of O rings available.
I'm pretty excited to get it.I see from the Kirsten web page that some Turkish bowls might be still available.
