This is (or was) an actual blend from around 1880 to 1940.I was just reading an old copy of Hackers book and he mentioned it.It reminded me of an experience I posted about on another forum 5 years ago..A bit over 20 years ago I was browsing some back shelves of a smoke shop.I picked up a pretty plain pouch of tobacco marked Elephant Butts smoking and chewing tobacco.I asked the owner how much.He laughed and said try it.If you can smoke it you can have it.This stuff was so strong It just about knocked my head off.I don't think I finished half a bowl.I ask him how old it was.He said it's over 50 years old.The inside of that pouch was some kind of foil and that tobacco after all those years was still moist. The company that made it also made Mail Pouch chewing tobacco..I hadn't thought about this in 5 years until I saw this blend mentioned in that book today. It's funny what little things can transport you back in time in your mind.

I would have to try that if I ran across it. And probably regret doing so. I am a slow learner where this kind of thing is concerned.

I'd have to try it if I came across it. I'm not afraid. I imagine the room note is glorious lol

That is one that definitely should have the warning sticker on it.

I like strong blends. To date the only blend that was too much was black xx. The brown rope is nice but something did not agree with me with the black one. I only tried it once but it tasted like tires π

I only tried it once but it tasted like tires π The G&H Black X Irish, or whatever it's called, tasted like tires/creosote/wet partially burned firewood/road tar to me too. The SG Black XX wasn't nearly as bad. In fact, I enjoyed it.

It might be enjoyed by coal miners or chimney sweepers who missed work in the evening or people without taste buds π. It was not for me! I remember the GH Sweet Whiskey rope was quite good.
