Good luck, Mike. Been there, done that, have the t-shirt.
Let me know what surgery you're getting. Will be interested what course of action they decided to take for you.

L5-S1 disc herniated and totally blocked the nerve to my leg causing burning..numbness cramping and some rather embarassing episodes as well a few days before surgery..as of now i am home and sitting with dogs who want to comfort me!

I have out with the wife doing some riding chores..run the kids to school..banking.shopping..get a bit tired and have to rest when i come home but all in all not near as bad as i thought it would be! climbed the stairs today to put away my tobacco that arrived so that gave me something to do for half an hour as i smelled it and decanted it from jar to jar finding the right one to store each blend in..LOL the mason jars my wife just bought have gone missing again!

Glad to hear you came out of it well sir. Your lucky, the doc told me I had a 50/50 chance with surgery. Either being paralyzed or not, not my kind of odds so I just take it as easy as I can around here, when I can.

Glad it went well, Mike. I had the same thing done about 3 years ago. Actually had to look under the covers and make sure my legs were still there after the surgery, since the pain was gone. I was up and walking around the recovery area within about 20 mins of coming out of anesthesia. Same experience though, the first week you will get tired quick. DON'T overdo it. Get your naps in, relax and take it easy.
My only complaint after was the steroids they put you on to keep the swelling down. Messed me up... made me all emotional and I felt like I was watching one of those stupid SPCA commercials all day. Once I was done with those though, things were great. Was well worth it, IMO.

The steriods are giving me BAD heartburn..BAAAADDDDD heartburn..lots of tums etc..crackers... milk..keeps me up some nights..the good ting is since i hurt my back i have dropped almost 20 pounds in a month!!!

That is the next step. Maintain your fitness. Do PT when you are able. Go to the gym, and strengthen your core. Trust me, it does wonders. Took me awhile though as I was very paranoid about messing something up, but in the long run, it worked out.
