Anyone have one of these types of pipes? I'm interested in the stem mechanics. Is the stem tenon actually wide, or is it a standard diameter, with a large rim around it?

I have a reverse Calabash that’s not in my rotation right now, the shank is drilled wide to accommodate the stem.....take a look. Picture was on a cloud service.

Standard draft hole with a large diameter tenon is the usual.

Cool! Thanks guys! That's what I figured. Thanks for the pics, haveldad, I've never seen one of "those" disassembled.

Word of warning, not all large diameter shanks are reverse calabashes, some are a standard 3-5mm bore. Most all reverse calabash say so in the item description that or reference to a secondary cooling chamber. For the best results if in doubt ask.

I've never seen that before... Any reason for that setup other than uniqueness?

They're done both ways. There are pros and cons for each. The pipe maker chooses what fits his aesthetic best.
