G'Day All, I've been diagnosed with high blood pressure this morning, so at least until the Doc stabilises & lowers it, with medication, I will be teatotal & tobacco free , I hope to perhaps sit on the side & join in on other threads at present. Bye'All.

I take meds for BP and I still smoke and drink. It doesn't appear to have had any ill effects for me but my BP was not extremely high to begin with. Give the doctor's orders a try for a while, Stan and see where your BP stabilizes. They say all thing in moderation but I'm more of a pedal to the metal kind of guy. Good luck and keep us informed.

John Thanks for the encouragement John, it is unknown territory for me , I have some basic general knowledge of hypertension & stuff, but I am researching into it further, it is interesting to note it has not stopped the smoking & drinking for you John, it is good to have feedback from the pipe community of others with hypertension, Bye'All.

Have high blood pressure myself, as in the lower number in the three digit range, before I got on meds. Not much of a drinker but smoking doesn't seem to hurt me any. Every time the nurse takes my BP now she says it is excellent. Once your meds kick in you should be fine.

I'm not a physician nor have I ever played one on TV. Legal stimulants (nicotine, caffeine, alcohol) reduce bloodflow and therefore increase blood pressure. My BP spikes every now and then, above 150/100 but always returns below 140/90 if I avoid beer, caffeinated coffee, tea and stay below three bowls a day. As long as I avoid all of the former, it continues to go down no matter how many bowls I smoke. Your mileage may vary. Best of luck.

My 2bobs: Had a high BP problem about 5 years ago and got put on meds. Adjusted my diet, took up some light exercise and dropped 10 kilos of flab.....BP normalised within a year and off the meds. Never stopped smoking or drinking (scotch only).

G'mornin'All, thanks for all the helpful comments gents, my BP was sky high at the docs, a bit of a bad spike & I was thinking it was the end for pipe & spirits, but it is a new morning & I have dug out my battery BP test meter, & done some auto measurements, the readings have lowered & after my first tablet, I am tripping slow & easy to some relaxation music & meditation exercise, I heeded the warning , for now. But from what you guys suggest moderate pipe & spirits are OK, so I will give it a few days & pick up a pipe for a few puffs for starters. Bye'All.

I told my doctor that 2 things were not up for discussion; drinking and smoking. I told him the minute he tried to lecture me that I'd find a new doctor. So far, so good. You just get to a point where you don't want to hear that crap anymore.

G'morning, I feel the NHS over here is a medic mafia at times chasing all kinds of madcap media fashions very hasty and twitter happy rather than rational, but I discovered Push doctor an online Doctor service , I prefer to pay for, at present, moderate smoking & drinking are fine they are like sacraments to me, enjoy the fruits of the grain & vine and good herbs friends & all. Bye.

I was put on meds for high blood pressure and borderline diabetes, but I hate taking anything ,,,even aspirin, so I decided to scrap that plan and lost some weight by altering my diet a bit and reducing carbs. It solved both problems for me, but everyone is different. Of course every doctor has their own idea of what "high" blood pressure is.
I'd say as far as alcohol and tobacco consumption check your course as you go.

I had my 6 month health review with my doctor today. All of my numbers were great and he told me to keep doing what I'm doing. So, I will follow doctor's orders. Smoke on and drink on.
