This morning I’m thinking of my Fathers brother who fought from Africa to Germany, was pinned in a foxhole somewhere in Germany, water up to his chest, 2 dead Germans with him and a sniper in a bell tower, couldn’t get out, finally Patton’s tanks blasted the tower, he was sent to England to recoup from wounds. He was kind of off kilter when he came back, it wasn’t till I came back from SAsia that I appreciated what he went thru. To all the people that served whether in combat or not, THANK YOU.

My wife's father served in WW 2 for 4 years. He told me some of the things he went through..No one should have to endure some of the things Veterans have.He never got over his brother being killed in France. The guy who said war is Hell was right. All of us who enjoy our good life today owe it to those who have served, and those who died to preserve it for us..As some one who didn't serve I can't express my deep appreciation to those who have..Thank You.

Thinking of my Grandpa on this 101st Armistice Day. Fought for Wilhelm II the last German Emperor and King of Prussia against Tsar Nicholas II Russian Empire, then the short lived Russian Republic, and finally Lenin's Soviet Russia. That's him at 18 yrs. old in prone position with his artillery unit somewhere on the Eastern Front. After the Great War he emigrated to America and became a U.S. citizen. Today I'm thinking of what he saw and experienced in that awful period.

We honor all Veterans on this day. Clearly, all the heroes of WWI ought to be considered on the 100th aniversary of the armistice.
I think of two great uncles, one Army, one Marine, both served in France and both returned home. God Bless all those who served.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

I flew C-130’s an a good crew chief was worth her weight in gold. We would take one with us on certain missions, and while we crew rested, the crew chief was up all night (or day) making sure the airplane was ready for the next leg. With C-130’s being as cranky as they were, it was a job. Crew chiefs are unsung heroes.

Here I was in something not quite dress blues, happy to have all parts still attached when becoming a vet, and about to come home back to CONUS. Wish I was still about that age.

Hubby's Marine unit flew C-130s so we have a soft spot for all who serve on them. Walt, I have to agree with you

Brad,
Thanks for the thread. This day has mixed emotions for me, as I'm sure it does for all Veterans...
On one hand I am proud to have served my country, defending her and the greatest Constitution ever Penned.
On the other, I'm saddened by the loss most of us have experienced, losing our brothers on foreign soil, as well as the lack of understanding, disregard or utter contempt we have in our own country for the sacrifices made. I'll just leave it at that.
In closing I would like to thank all here, and elsewhere, that served and pay honor to our brothers and sisters that paid it all.
Take care & God Bless

I have never advocated war except as means of peace, so seek peace, but prepare for war. Because war… war never changes. War is like winter. Winter is coming.Ulysses S. Grant
