just got this in the mail from poland after a 1 month wait. I am kinda unhappy about the amount of saw dust inside the pipe and inside the mouthpiece. it was everywhere. the black die was coming off in my hands. the drill hole was not perfect so I had to notch out some plastic to get it to smoke right. if the drill hole was lined up better it would not need to be notched at the joint and it would probably draw from the lowest point of the bowl by maybe 2mm lower. the same 2mm I notched out of the plastic. I don't think I am qualified to do a real pipe review but maybe this will warn people before they spend $40 + ship to get something that is not even clean or usable out of the box. the wood is decent, no burn out, good weight. overall, you can tell it is hand shaped or at least finished sanded by a worker with a belt sander because nothing is really straight on this pipe but it is not noticeable unless you look close. the mouth piece is also bent by hand. with all that saw dust, it is no surprise that the workers will not do a quick test to breath through it before shipping it out. the pictures on etsy have the wood finished and polished like glass but what I got was probably just barely sanded and waxed. I do see a few small scratches in the finish but nothing really bad. you get what you pay for. I really do like the way it smokes but I only have one small corn cob to compare to.

It is a good looking pipe, sorry you had issues and needed to clean it up and ream the draft hole a bit. You didnβt pay much but you stated itβs a good smoker......at this point thatβs all that matters. Hope the pipe gives you many years of smoking pleasure πππ
PS Greatly appreciate you posting a warning as well.

What Ted said...and welcome to the Patch from central north Florida. Don't think that would be considered a billiard.

Welcome. Stick around and you will hear about some great pipemakers. Mr Brog pipes are dependable and in the same price range. Also from Poland, I believe.

Mr Brog pipes are dependable and in the same price range. Also from Poland, I believe. Isn't there some connection between Mr. Brog and Mr. Balandis? I seem to recall hearing something about that. The photo setup and logo design certainly look similar.

Only wood pipe I ever burned thru the wall was a Mr Brog olive wood with under 30 uses. I emailed the company in Poland three times with no response. It would not surprise me that both manufacturers are one in the same!!

It's too bad that you had problems with the pipe. I will say I do like the shape.

Mine are all pear wood and stout enough to hold up. I will say that my Brog Churchwarden had the stem clogged with sawdust and it was a female dog to get it cleared. It's fine now. But where are you going to find a good churchwarden for $35 that is actually intended to be smoked? My friends kids keep giving him inexpensive churchwarden pipes that are just decorative. He tried smoking them and gave up until I gifted him a decent pipe. My other four had no issues at all and I believe they make good starter pipes, in addition to cobs.

I can get a good kaywoodie for the same price as a Brog. Why would I ever buy a brog? Lmao

I've 2 mr brog pipes. Both are great smokers. Both the cheaper pear wood (although brog does do briar too).
As far as I know, balandis are their suppliers. They've a big brog presence on ebay (UK).
That aside, what you got wasn't a great likeness to the picture. I'm glad you had the skills to make it right, but you shouldn't have to.
