Former multi-craft facilities technician specializing in hvac/refrigeration, 7 years as a pipe organ Builder, 1 year subwoofer assembler. Got bit by fire ants 4 years ago, lost 95% of my nerves in my arms and legs, had to quit working after 4 months, went from a 58 year old to a physical similarity of a 95 year old. Since the muscles get their information from the nerves, I lost about 60% of my muscles in my arms and legs, so fatigue runs my life. I mostly hang out at the Cigar and Pipe shop.

I spent a lot of time in University - I was on track to be an eternal student. Worked in a pharmaceutical company for 9 years as an analytical chemist. Left that in 2014 to go back to uni to pursue a calling into ordained ministry. Currently working as an assistant minister (pastor) until next year when I can start looking for my own place. More info here.

I might be homeless by the end of Winter......you have a place for me. Here in NC I was told by a State representative to purchase a good tent and live in the woods.....and I’ll quote.....” many families are living in tents and surviving well “! I’d sooner be buried six feet under!!!

I was an electronics engineer, not much over 12 volts in that line of work.

As little as I can due to health. These days I work one or two days a week teaching classes on safety and a couple of projects a year involving strange oil and mining equipment procurement. The rest of the time fishing, reading, playing video games, playing with tech or making something with a soldering iron and repairing old watches sometimes with success.

o My career was varied, starting out as a Planner in California working on wildland management and exurban land conversion to more urban use. Moved on to real estate finance, project finance and finally corporate finance using asset backed securities in the institutional private placement market.
Currently, I am an irrigation superintendent for a community ditch association or an "Acequia". Elected by the members who are small plot farmers. This is the land of "Spanish Irrigation". A system of ditches bringing water into arid lands. This technique was brought over from Spain by the settlers here long ago which they learned from the Moors who settled in Spain. The Moor guys learned it from the Egyptians. So, we water like an Egyptian.
These acequia associations were the foundation of democracy in New Mexico, some go back to the 1600s. The members voted on their leaders and all important decisions. Unlike the rest of the nation, there was no foundation of English law and representative government here. New Mexico, as a colony of Spain and then a territory of Old Mexico, NM operated on a feudal caste system until it became a state in 1912. The Patrons made the rules, the peons or serfs did the work and followed orders.

College going for a PR comms major. I'd really like to run a winery or do something involved in one as a career, plan on looking into it once I finish college.
Currently I just work at a Food Store making peanuts. It sucks.

Currently I just work at a Food Store making peanuts. It sucks. Most of us have low wage work in our early history. While something of a struggle at the time, never forget what those days were like and the people you worked with. When you achieve success and glory, it will be those people on the bottom you will depend upon. Some empathy for them will help. A Winery is a good choice for a PR exec. There is a lot of promotion in the wine business. A story must be told to penetrate the market. So much competition. If you are interested in Wineries, you might research Randall Graham and Bonny Doon Winery of California. Go back to his beginning. Here is a guy who beat all the odds starting out growing grapes in a location of limited production and built a powerful brand based entirely on quality and his quirky personality.

Thank you for the information, it'd be a dream to be able to use my grandfathers recipes and get the name out there. He made a spiced blackberry wine that was always 18% alcohol and one of the most unique drinks I've ever had. I'm very blessed to have the books, notes, and tools he left for me in his passing to carry the tradition as a hobby.

I retired on disability in 2001. Since then I’ve spent the major of my time enjoying my grandkids, collecting pipes, building a sizable tobacco stash, reading, listening to music, trying to gain knowledge from my friends, impart some knowledge to my grandkids, enjoying my home, my wife, and my pipes and tobacco. I’ve sent two of my doctor’s kids through college, donated a sizable portion of my income to Uncle Sam, and voted in every election. I dabble in mixing tobacco on occasion, watch TV, and read the Bible daily. When I feel up to it I try to post on this forum and endeavor to make new friends. Oh, I like to razz JimInks over the two tins of Rotary he owes me. AJ

Tosh is right, valuable lessons can be learned even when facing the mundane task of dealing with the public. You interact with people from all walks of life, and it can be a great asset in the future in relational issues with customers, coworkers, and clients down the road.

He also took on the role of supporting emotionally an old wore out geezer...talked me into retiring and enjoying life for a change. He is a friend, a mentor, and most importantly a brother in every important sense of the word.

I repair and install commercial kitchen equipment, everything from garbage disposals to walk in coolers and freezers. As a sideline I restore refrigeration systems for antique soda machines.

Currently I write software. Over the years I worked for a dozen startups including my own. At one point I owned a coffee shop until the economic downturn in 2008. Consulted companies in business processes to streamline from the board on down to development so they can react to market changes. Now working for a big company doing back end API's and developing DevOp tools.
