Construction and remodeling. Tip 1: dont get into this line of work unless you like aggravation and headaches. Tip 2: If you dont know how to do something, ask. Tip 3 (not for the worker but for the people) If someone is working on your house, dont stand over them all day long watching what they're doing. It drives us CRAZY.

I’m a house husband and photographer. My wife puts in hard hours as a nurse so I make sure she doesn’t have house work to do. Then together we can explore as I photograph. Today I’m washing clothes, preparing prints to send out to clients and prepping products for one of the few commercial jobs I do. While my social media is low profile I do well enough to not have to photograph events and am free to photograph what and how I want.
Tip: Everyone with a camera is a photographer anymore. If you meet one to maybe use for your event and they don’t feel right, find another.

Holding my activities aside for the moment and focusing on great tips from professionals and such, I recall the first words from a Journeyman Electrician class I took at the local community college. Taught by an Electrical Contractor of long experience.
"As an Electrician, you can look forward to three things in life:
1. Terror, 2. Anger, 3. Depression."
Terror that someone will close the circuit you are working on. Anger when they do. Depression over why am I doing this to myself.
Fortunately, the rest of the class was up from there.

If you get into the computer business, get into programming and development. Once you have the concepts, you only need to learn how to use the changing sets of tools. Network engineers and security specialists are always 2 steps behind.

Commercial Fisheries Consultant and Fishing Vessel Safety Advisor. You all think safety is expensive? Try an incident/accident. Be safe!
In a previous life: Lawyer. Law does not equal justice!

I was a OTR (over the road) truck driver for most of my career but, had to retire because of failing too many DOT physicals at the end. A helpful hint to all, no matter who's driving the semi, respect the truck, you won't win against 80,000 pounds on 18 wheels. And just one more thing, don't think just because they have big wheels and big brakes that it's going to stop as quick as you think it will, you'll be wrong.

After 10 years in university, I was an analytical chemist for about 8 years. I moved out of the lab to look after the computer software in the lab. I also did a lot of Microsoft basic programming in Excel to automate spreadsheet use.
I gave it all up 4 years ago to go back to uni and study theology (again). I'm currently an assistant minister. Next September I'll be able to apply for my own church.
I'm hoping a big church in America stumbles upon me and invites me over. I'll not hold my breath on that one.
Tip from my line of work...Excel is a powerful piece of work. So is Word. Problem is we use so little of it.

Private contractor for our Government since I was 21, until I had to retire in November of 2011 due to health issues. If I had not become ill I would still be working today. My job was interesting as well as rewarding!!!

By next year you can open your own Pub-Church in Ireland.....sober your customers by serving a few of your “ flat whites “ then open the doors to your Church and preach on “ addictions “!, While passing a basket around for donations. You’d clean up for sure....lol.

I retired as an inspector for a big auto company. My job was to try to make sure that government (Mandated) safety items were as they were supposed to be..The first things my boss said to me when I took the job..You're not here to make friends..It didn't take long at all to find out he was right.

27.5 yrs on B&O Railroad till getting %(_+?%$ Reaganized July '89. Near run out of unemployment (their) insurance wound up washing windows/cutting grass for a fast food franchise for next 18. Retired Sept 1, 07. (fortunately during those yrs had decent cash, under the table income helped). Now pick up a little from some local even older than me folks.

I work in the movies as a vfx artist. My advice from about 20 years in the biz is this, use a standing desk and lift weights at the gym to prevent RSI. 50 to 60+ hours a week sitting at a computer has a way of wrecking most people's bodies without adequate exercise.

Went to school and studied architecture after I got back from the University of Vietnam in '70. Learned to make furniture from my uncle before I went overseas and decided I didn't want to work in an office all day so went to work in the commercial millwork and boardroom furniture buisness.Spent 10 years in the furniture trade as a benchman in a custom boardroom furiniture firm. Had an accident in the rough mill which gave me a handicap so I went back to architecture as a draftsman and drew in the board w/paper & pencil then spent the last 10 years on the puter. Been retired for the last 5 years now. I enjoyed my work as a draftsman and when my daughter was little she'd ask what I did I'd tell her "... I draw pitures "

I mostly make pipes, but I'm still not full time with that, so I also do Photoshop work for a few professional photographers, do a little photography, myself, manage a few websites for some clients, and do whatever else I can to make ends meet.

I've been working as a municipal road worker for the last 6 years. Everything from digging ditches to plowing snow. I really enjoy my job and plan to retire there in 19 years. My tip...Don't tailgate the plow truck, we are likely to back onto your hood at the next intersection...

Asset based Structured Finance for Corporations funded in the Institutional Private Placement Bond Market. Deals which had never been done before. Railroads, hotel companies, National Park Concession holders. Interesting work but drove my corporate masters crazy. They had to think about stuff. Worked in NYC, Los Angeles, and London.
Long retired and a few other things since. Now, I am a farm irrigation superintendent overseeing distribution of water. Gets me outside, anyway.

Starting in college, I worked as a jeweler's assistant and then as a jeweler. Then I went into VFX as a matte artist, occasionally doing double duty as a camera operator and art director. Now I work with a dog, a rabbit, a Tasmanian devil, a duck, a couple of cats, a couple of birds, and a mouse. After 40 years working in the entertainment business, my tip is to do what you love doing as you will spend a lot of time doing it. When you stop loving it, go do something else. Talent is important, but not more so than persistence, patience, and an open mind. No less important, expect the unexpected.

I'm a senior IT engineer. Ronv69, I tried my hand at programming, and we didn't like each other. I do some scripting, but nothing serious. I just manage a ton of servers (physical and virtual), networking and network equipment, and all the services we provide. It's stressful, thus the pipe smoking and vaping.
