Mailed out my "Secret Santa" package today... in the holiday mood.
What is your "essential" holiday recording?
Mine is this...

That is a rabbit hole for me. But, I'd have to say some of my favorite is by the Andrew Parrott Taverner Consort - Christmas albums #1 and #2. Also, the Singers Unlimited Christmas album is top notch. Not to be forgotten, Andy Williams, of course. There's more. Lots more...

Der Bingle figures prominately. I have another CD of his holiday recordings. No one in my house liked him but me.
Vince Guaraldi was another.

Definitely less "traditional", but I really, really like this album by Chris:

Really Burl Ives is the best. I know it you know it the whole damn world knows it. ESPECIALLY his rendition of "The Twelve Days of Christmas".

way far removed from the "classics"
1. Asleep at the Wheel "Texas Christmas" 2. Brian Setzer Xmas album...(IMO best Grinch ever) 3. JS Bach Christmas Cantata (in German but don't care)

This song always takes me back to my childhood. We always watched Charlie Brown, Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Charlie Brown was always my favorite. I still watch it most years.

Bing Crosby for me, White Christmas always makes me teary eyed, remembering time in service away from home and hearing it.

I've always liked the song about Snoopy and the Red Baron during the Christmas season.

So many good choices listed. The one I always look forward to is , I want a hippopotamus for Christmas. Dad always played it for me as a kid and I still love it. Just goofy silly fun sometimes.

I like variety...
Technically, not Christmas, I know but...
... and The Pogues' Fairytale of New York (due to the lyrical content, I'll let you look that one up yourself).

Although this is more my speed ...I'd forgotten about this tune, John... gave me chills to hear it again... thanks... This song used to be on the Christmas mix tape they played on repeat at my work. It was the only time I'd get to hear Tull (or Slade for that matter) at work! I'm glad it has memories for you too
