Starting to get to record rain levels here. Making it real hard to get anything done. Ground is almost as slippery as ice , the grass is just slipping off of the earth.
On a positive note dog likes the new mud playgrounds. It also allows me to get some inside stuff done. Which is not very photo worthy.
What I have gotten done outside is a side box for the greenhouse with glass doors for a transition area for plants to get used to semi outside before planted fully outside.

These did not pass inspection from Bandit. He keeps trying to get in them . He does not like being shut out of things.
I also got to work on putting up some stall walls in the barn. So now just waiting on the funds to get the boards to build the doors. I'm sure by the end of summer I can have doors up.
Before and after photos.

Back East we called 'em "cold frames" and they are very useful. Just be careful that one day the sun doesn't bear down directly and wither the plants though rapid build up of heat through solar gain. Propping them open a bit solves that.
You can also insert an electrical coil at the bottom to make a "hot bed". That really gets seedlings going, but costs a bit on the electric bill.
Well done and good luck!

Travis you have made some real progress since you started this thread. I congratulate your efforts and results. Remember “By the yard it’s hard. By the inch it’s a cinch.” Meaning slow and steady gets the job done without so much stress. Keep the pictures of your progress coming.

Getting into the busy season guys. So have not been posting as much. I have been reading though. Right now have been starting seeds in the greenhouse and its working pretty good. Need to insulate the greenhouse a bit more and all that will come in time. Right now getting ready two 25x50 foot kitchen gardens and then a 40x40 spot for corn and melons probably. Then getting chickens in may if all goes to plan. Been doing a bit of fishing and hunting to get the freezer filled so have not left much time for much else. I do have a little blog where I am posting my adventures. ( I asked permission first before posting) If anyone would like to check it out of course you are more than welcome. www.greenjournalhomestead.com

Excellent blog, you’ve come a long way. Keep up the great work, I see a bright future for you and your family. Everything you’ve accomplished so far was methodically well planned. When you have more pictures in the future please keep the blog updated, thanks for the great “ life “ story.

Getting excited for the weekend! Hope you guys are as well. Spent the last few days going through old photos of past years gardens. Going over garden journals of years past promising myself not to make the same mistakes this year (we will see). Daydreaming of being in the dirt!
Lots of seeds were started over a month ago in the green house. Several more getting started this weekend to be ready to go in the ground around first of May. This weekend will be so much tractor time. Tilling up one of the old 25ft by 50ft plots. Then a 2 new 25 by 50 spots. Which will give me four overall. So each one can be used Chickens, Early Garden, Spring Garden, Fall Garden. Each time a plot is done growing the chickens move in. Till it for me, Fertilize it for me, then move to the next one. Constant rotation. Permaculture is a fantastic thing!
I urge everyone to plant something this weekend. It is the ultimate belief that there will be a tomorrow, planting seeds today.

Weekend did not turn out exactly as planned. Tractor decided it wanted to take the day off. Since it is easier to " plow around the stump" we found other projects.
Started and re-potted ridiculous amounts of seeds. Can you tell we are excited? These pictures aren't even all of them. The plan as always is to grow enough food to feed an army. Then let people pay or donate what they think is fair for it, and if they cant pay no worries we have plenty.

At least the greenhouse is getting some use.

Hopefully weather is as great wherever you guys are as it is here. Spring is so amazing. Its my busiest time of year and I love every min of it.
Spend at least an hour a day smoking some sutliff 515 mixed with a little SOTE riding around on the tractor and doing various chores. "Chores" is a bad word for it. Every single bit of watering, or planting, or feeding is an action because I want to do it. It exists in my world because I want it to.
The greenhouse plants are rocking, and supervisor Bandit has some new "friends"

Thanks for the kind words guys! Got everything laid out and planted this weekend. All three gardens set up and greenhouse basically cleaned out. Girlfriend and I were exhausted to say the least. Have 25 foot rows of Radish, 2 of onions, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, 15 total tomato plants (several kinds), 10 pepper plants, Acorn squash, summer squash, Zucchini, cucumber, watermelon, cantaloupe , honey dew , spaghetti squash, sweet potato, peas, birdhouse gourds, luffa gourds, 2 rows russet potatoes, 6 rows corn, okra, I'm tired again just typing it out.
I think my favorite part of the whole weekend was being on the tractor at daylight the first day. Giving it all one more good turning so driving slow as possible across the rows. Took a couple of hours. Being as excited as a kid on Christmas Eve. Already daydreaming about the delicious fried squash and bologna and tomato sandwiches. The familiar excitement of knowing by the end of the day I would be dead tired. That good kind of tired and achiness that comes a hard honest days work. Came to mind my own grandfather I used to watch plow his gardens. He had a old red tractor and I remember him spending hours and hours to me it seemed driving in circles. Not realizing he was instilling in me a passion that would serve well now as an adult. All the while providing healthy food not soaked in chemicals I cant even pronounce. I wonder if he was just as excited as I was in that exact moment.

mmmmm- try as I might I cannot see where your tobacco plants are. "Real" farmers also plant some tobacco... HA that is a good point. I worked in tobacco fields as a kid. From walking behind the planter setting and watering the plants, hanging it in the barn, to pressing it in the old wooden presses used. I really don't miss doing that. I actually have enough tobacco in the cellar for 5 or so years. When I need to start buying tobacco again might have to plant some.

Busy busy at the place! Plants popping up everywhere. Every day is an adventure to see what has sprung up since the day before! Gentle rains over the weekend hopefully means even more growing cant wait to get home and check!
Most of it is written up at greenjournalhomestead.com feel free to check it out.
We do have a new addition to the place, a new rabbit.
He is a great addition. A mix of two breeds I had been considering. He is surprisingly friendly and fitting in great! . So hopefully we have even more rabbits soon.
