Rabbits are a lot of fun to watch. ...and he/she needs to be named....we just can't say..."Hey, Rabbit!"...feller needs to be recognized and have his/her own name. I don't mind names. Dogs name is Bandit! I tend not to name the "livestock" that will end up in the freezer eventually.

This way when your kids ask “ what’s for dinner “, you don’t have to tell them “ Spike “.....lol

Looking like this thread might have run its course! Got another post though
Very hot this weekend. Makes me appreciate the nice fans I have, and naps in the middle of the day and working early and late. Often working by headlight watering. Did get some garage time Sunday to work on the new chicken house.

Need to paint it and put the top on the nesting boxes. Also need to figure out some wheels or skis on it to be able to move it. In one of the pictures you can see the "floor" is 1 inch hardware cloth and the back is hinged for easy clean out.
Got another weekend working on the property , gardens, getting covered in sweat and sawdust . I am blessed beyond comprehension. Be safe in the heat guys/gals, but remember your grandparents/great grandparents didn't have AC and you don't need to just sit in it either. Thousands of people who are bed ridden would trade almost anything to go outside and be productive. Those of us that can get out and be productive owe them to do just that!

Don’t stop posting, you got the work done, we want to see the fruits of your labor, I agree, I enjoy watching your journey and creativity. It’s amazing how much you’ve accomplished by yourself in such a short time. I’d definitely rather have my health back and work outside in the heat, which never gave me a problem prior to becoming ill. Your a lucky man Travis, keep building, farming, posting pictures and enjoy life as much as possible 👌👍👍

Thanks guys! I am blessed for sure. To blessed to be stressed. I feel like I never get anything done , the 40 hour a week job gets in the way. HA . Busiest time of year for me outside of work. Gardens growing like crazy. Having to carry buckets of water to them every other day. Exercise blessing there. No rain here. BUT..... Better than the storms to the West of me. Again a blessing. Rabbit didn't get pregnant , and I wanted her to, Then record level heat wave which might have killed the babies anyway. Another blessing.
Going to be having fried squash and zucchini this weekend hopefully. Freezers and pantry should be overfilling with food this year.

Gardens jamming. Everything is so tall now (that was not eaten by rabbits and the like) that they have outpaced the weeds. Means it looks messy but saves a few hours of work a week.
Already eating squash, zucchini, green beans, radishes, onions, spinach, carrots, garlic (planted last year) . Herb beds going strong also. Been using them with the remaining frozen tomatoes from last year to make several sauces to use throughout the year for easy dinner. Just have to boil some pasta.

Speaking of the rabbit and various pest problem got the solution growing on the porch. They may be small now but will be much needed security help when they get bigger.

Finally getting some rain here! It is very much needed.
Everything going good as usual. Garden is doing big things the picture below is what I am getting about every three days right now. Other stuff will be coming along soon.

Freezer is getting a few added, which I try and stock enough to eat all year so have a LONG way to go . Especially since my okra is not doing well, okra is about 40 % of the veg I save due to ease and it lasts a long time. Going to be a lean year if I don't get some other stuff grown and froze. Wild blackberries are having a big year and have been breakfast and dessert for the past week, along with my blueberries the deer left me, and some strawberries if I get to them before the birds.
Of course have been eating squash and zucchini fresh almost every night. Cooked several different ways. In skillets with just some butter, grilled with Italian dressing , covered in homemade marinara sauce from last years tomatoes and this years garlic and herbs..... and last but not least fried. I am not much for bragging on myself, but you guys cant taste how good my fried squash is so I have to tell you. It is amazing.

Chickens are growing, seem to have a few roosters headed for freezer camp in the next month or so. Baby rabbits were a semi surprise but they seem to be doing fine. Kittens and dog being fat and happy.

All in all life is wonderful as usual. Enjoying the days in the sun while I can but thankful for the rain and how it can slow down the pace enough to rest.

Nice report, my Father loved fried eggplant, when he was dieing of cancer my wife and I brought him to our fishing camp, she fried a huge platter of eggplant, sitting down he said all this for me, yes I said, have at it, he even though sick demolished the whole platter, to this day whenever I see fried eggplant I think of my Father.

I tend not to name the "livestock" that will end up in the freezer eventually. I used to name our butcher steers names like "Barbacoa", "Burger Boy", "Meat Ball", "Stew". Keeps the relationship in perspective. The toughest for me was the hog I raised and finished. They have more personality. Never again!

Very intelligent quirky animals.

My grandpa had a large pig that I named Matthew. That bastard was mean and always trying to bite me. No tears were shed for those hocks! Now, the calf that I named Bob was another story and, at the age of 6, stopped naming them. Lol

It has been a long hot summer. Looking through my phone realize I did not take any pictures worth saving. I will work on getting some pictures
Been busy busy. Gardens came and went, Fall garden not showing to be an option this year so dry, and all the rain barrels are empty.
Chickens are laying 5 eggs a day which are delicious, 7 Roosters and 10 Rabbits have went to freezer camp. Have squash, acorn squash, zucchini , tomatoes enough to feed an army. Gave away truck loads of veggies to people who could use it.
Expecting two more litters of rabbits to be born in a few weeks, plan on doing a barn expansion for a better run for them. Also 6 new hens to join the garden prep posse but they need to grow up some first.
Project wise nothing much going on at my place. Getting information and bids on building a house. Economy is rocking which is a great thing at large, but making house building a pricier option than I was figuring 5 years ago.
Trying to put back some extra money for that keeps me not doing projects at my place. I cant sit still though so doing side jobs for people in the area. The area I live around has lots of older people that need some work done but cant exactly pay anything but they have priceless information and some of the best stories.
Plan is the next few months is to clear off some more of the field to better define the property line.
