Just in time for Thanksgiving, the CDC has just announced ALL Romaine Lettuce is UNSAFE to eat and should be immediately disposed off. Vegetable bins should be sanitized. This includes all Romaine from all sources everywhere. This is not a joke.
Sad. Romaine is or was a staple here. Could be why I have been sick for several days as Romaine is included in my sandwiches and salads.

Don’t feel so bad. Lol. My father was major trekkie, but not me. I preferred the classic books and the orginal ideas that these series ripped off to popularize - after a fashion.

Funny but wild animals know what to eat and what to leave alone. Romaine has always tasted sour to me so I've never liked it, always preferred other greens. Papaw taught me which mushrooms in the woods were good to eat; otherwise, I would have never known.

Yikes. In one sense it's good you might know what's making you feel sick. On the other hand, if it is that, I hope it's nothing serious.

The girlfriend went septic after eating romaine in July. She spent five days in the hospital essentially consisting on morphine, IV and saltine crackers.

You got to wash all that fresh stuff in a nice big colander. Heck I scrub my potatoes and radishes and what not. Also rinse whatever that pink slime they pour all over meat these days off. Let face the facts the people who process fresh veggies, fruit and meat are probably not the most sanitary folks there are many documentaries showing how the meat industry employees less than desirable individuals. Don't get me wrong there are many fine folks who process food and if you know where your food comes from all the better.

Damn, salad is on the menu tonight - but I'm assuming it's okay to eat from the same head of lettuce I've been eating for a week. I just won't buy more for a while. The last scare they pinpointed to a farm in Yuma, I believe. Looks like they don't know the source of this one yet. toshtego, I think you'd definitely know if you had something as serious as e. coli. The symptoms are fairly extreme and debilitating.

Just read this online: "“Consumers who have any type of romaine lettuce in their home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick,” the CDC said." They are not messing around.

Believe me, dealing with governments my entire life there is much more to this story then we are ALL being told.

The local news said that one of the possible symptoms is bloody diarrhea... Yikes! about-ecoli.com/ecoli_symptoms_risks. I am not much of a salad eater anyway, and prefer plain old iceberg lettuce from Costco when I do.

I had to look up what a Romaine lettuce is. 😳
I only have iceberg lettuce (and even then rarely) and it looks like it's confined to the US.
Be safe, people.

E.coli contamination in lettuce is tricky.Just becuase the outer leaves were safe to eat does not mean that the inner part is not contaminated. Washing the lettuce does not guarantee safety. I plan on avoiding all lettuce and raw vegetables until this situation is understood.
Lettuce is not expensive, throw it out. Be safe. Be well.

Thanks for posting this information. Hopefully the word gets out before to much damage is done over the holidays. Makes me thankful for my couple rows of lettuce I plan on grazing from tomorrow.
