I was just thinking about the whole microbrewery thing. Most of my tobaccos have always come from pretty big pipe tobacco conglomerates. I have a few bulk blends I've bought in shops that were blended by tobacconists through the years that are pretty decent. But I can't really think of any independent / off label blends I've really accumulated or acquired much through the years. It seems that many of you have. So what say you? What is the good stuff out there made by the "little little guys"?

For me without a doubt the most overlooked blender from Park Lane Tobacconist, Paul Bonacquisti. All of his tobaccoβs are outstanding πππππ

L.J. Peretti There are a number of blends I enjoy: Tashkent, Omega, Smith's Own, Park Square to name a few. They are also famous for their Burley blends. www.ljperetti.com

I really enjoy blends I've had from Davis and Son in Wilmington, NC and Gatlin-Burlier in Gatlinburg, TN. They both have online stores too.

I spoke with Paul Bonacquisti a number of times when he visited The Cigar Room 2 near Springfield MA (located in Agawam). He was quite an animated individual, who I enjoyed conversing with. Though I have not tried any of his blends, you have reminded me to do so. Β Β Heβs by far friendlier than the owner of Perettiβs, Iβm done with them!! I haven't had any problems dealing with any of Peretti's tobacconists (I visited the store many times when I lived in MA) . I also acknowledge some folks have found a few of their tobacconists off-putting.Β When ordering from L.J. Peretti one should keep in mind that they do not fool around, are strictly about their trade andΒ typically treat fellow courteous pipe smokers well. They are also quintessential New Englanders . In spite of a few idiosyncrasies, bottom line tobacco pipes and blends are truly where the heart of the store lies.Β Besides isn't this thread about one's favorite independent/off label blends and not personalities some might have trouble with? If so I simply state Peretti makes some excellent blends.

What can I say? Boston Italians! Almost as bad as the Boston Irish! I'm sure they make good tobacco and I'll have to put an order in.

Great, they donβt answer emails and I had two rude employees while their. You can have Perettiβs....they donβt need my money! Iβm NOT the only pipe smoker thatβs commented on the attitude issue!!!

In fact I stated clearly there are others. Furthermore I wrote about some reasons why the shop can be a bit less friendly perceived or otherwise π and how one might frame the situation (There are more things to say though for this post brevity is best.). Funny thing is I also see trends in the behavior of those who have had difficulty with LJ Peretti and decided not to go thereπ. So before I digress, this thread is not about personalities but favorite blends from smaller markets, right? PS No worries ,I hope all is well with you.

Paul's Pipe Shop in Flint, MI. I have about 14 lbs total between 4 blends in my cellar.
Ted's Pipe Shop in Tulsa, OK. I have about 3 lbs total between 2 blends in my cellar. My favorite is Blend #300.
Both places do their own blending in house and donβt just relabel big name bulks. Neither place sells tobacco over the Internet. You have to do it the old fashioned way and call them on the phone.

People have to apply the 'Qmechanics differential' to all your posts. Not everything I state is said in humor. I was being fairly serious on this topic and reacted in part because of the propensity of some folks towards whining and my enjoyment of said tobaccos. Being that I was a bit curt in one of the previous posts, I thought a response was appropriate. PS I do not desire to cause a greater offense than necessary.π

Plus one on the Bonacquisti blends from Park-Lane: Connoisseur's Flake and similar; their oriental blends; and Red Paramour, among others.

Just for Him makes some decent stuff in their Middle Earth series. Shortcut to Mushrooms was a fantastic blend, and will be sorely missed, but I just got some of its replacement "Bombadil" (thanks to a trade with a member here). I'll be smoking some later, and will post my thoughts.

Another blend of note that used to be sold at Kramers is Father Dempsey. As most here already know, Kramers closed its doors fairly recently though luckily Marsha allowed her father's blends to live on at Smokingpipes.com .
PS It is good to see the thread is back on track. I really appreciate threads that are pipe related and informative and regret that it went off topic for a bit.
