So, I finally got around to a pipe full of this. The tobacco came as a very lightly pressed crumble cake in a plastic bag. The tobacco was a fairly coarse cut blend. I thought it smelled somewhat of fig or prune and maybe port. I did not detect any licorice aroma. The smoke was rich and thick from this one. I had to relight a few times as the tobacco was fairly moist. The aroma was pleasing but not all that aromatic. I did not detect much of a topping flavor, just a good, robust burley. It was a little spicy or peppery on my palate and I got a tiny bit of bite out of it. I have to say that I am not much of an aromatic smoker and often get a little bit of a bite out of some Burley blends. I would give this tobacco a 2 out of 4 rating, maybe 2.5. It was decent, but not something I will turn into a yearly tradition.

Don, sorry you got a tongue bite. When you smoke a bowll again let a bowl full air dry for at least 30 minutes. My 2017 has the smell of fruit punch. AJ was not impressed as well. I’d rate my 2017 at 2 out of 4 star....I’m being a bit generous. The rest of mine will be blended with a good Latakia I’ve saved for a while. Will NOT purchase again!!!

I will do that tomorrow on the next bowl. I will also try it in several different pipes. Of late, I seem to mostly enjoy Balkan, English and Oriental blends with an occasional VaPer to break it up.

Good review. Very similar to my first impressions last year.
This 2018 version reminded me of why I was underwhelmed by it last year when I tried it for the first time.
Jar it and try it again next Thanksgiving. It does age well, at least after 1 year or so. The bite goes away, the burley will become more prominent, and the harsh edges go away. The burley is terrific in this.
It's not going to jump from a 2-star to a 5-star blend over 12 mos. But you'll notice an improvement that pushes it to at least a solid 3-star rating.

So I was able to finally settle down after yesterdays events and enjoy a bowl of Peretti Thanksgiving Day from 2016. This blend has never impressed me through the last couple of years when I have tried it in various bowls. Last night I smoked a bowl in my Dagner Double Dublin, an RC. This blend is now at 3 stars for me. I absolutely love Perettis burleys and the burleys in this blend after some aging were sublime. I very much enjoyed the bowl to the last drop and I believe I will now fly through the rest of my jar and be ordering again next year. I will say it again, if you love burley and especially Peretti burley, do your self a favor and get you some Blend 333. My favorite burley blend. Cheers.
