Anyone know why Smoking Pipes had dropped the numerical grading system (1-5) on their estate pipes? There is still a description of any flaws, but the number has been dropped. Might just be a computer glitch. Not complaining--these have been my "go to" guys since I started this hobby/vice again a year ago. Every order has been perfect, and I have bought several pipes from them--new and estate. Not to mention a small mountain of tobacco.... But just curious......

I checked the website out myself. No grading that I could see either. Maybe they thought it wasn't terribly beneficial.

I have heard some say that the grading seemed too arbitrary, maybe it got someone’s ear.

Quite a few pipes that I looked at were rated high but had many scratches, dings, over-reaming, etc. Before I bought my first estate from them I learned to read the description and contact them for questions or extra photos. They've always been fast to respond.
I rarely look at number, or star, ratings on anything anymore thanks to amazon.

William, I’d call Smokingpipes, ask for Chip. He would definitely have the answer. I much preferred when they used the numerical rating system as well....they were spot on. Maybe an update at their end that removed it and hopefully they are working on the issue.
PS About 2 years ago I purchased an “ Estate “ pipe that was not as described. No hassle money back.
