Leaving to visit my granddaughter’s soon..........
GQ Tobacco's Askwith Kake, freshly thrown together by me the week of 7/6/2018
Pipe of choice: restored to mint condition a Chubby Olde London pot with a slight bend to this wide comfortable stem. A really nice old piece of Algerian briar makes this pipe an excellent smoker👌👍👍

Now smoking year 2015 Savinelli Doblone d’Oro in a smooth straight early 1960s Lane era Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort stem. This pipe was formerly owned by actor William Conrad. Getting ready to read some of the latest Bing Crosby biography.

Still working on my first smoke of the day, but carefully rubbing out and preparing (as we perforce must, for a good result) a bowlful of Esoterica Stonehaven, in the Hardcastle Royal Bruyere smooth apple. In 2009, the late great Dan Nathan ("Mr. Moo") visited South Florida on a business trip and kindly notified me so we could meet in person. We knew each other from another pipe-related forum at that time. I invited him to a local latin american restaurant, as he wanted to sample the local cuisine, such as it is. We then repaired to Stogie's for some cigar sampling. Before he left he gifted me some Royal Yacht ("I love that stinky baccy", he said. Lol). A few days after he went back home I received a parcel with an unopened 8 oz. sleeve of this Stonehaven, which left me dumbfounded. Later, I learned that generosity of this type was second nature to him. I promptly jarred it, and reciprocated as best I could with a couple of tins of Penzance right back at him. I love this Stonehaven, but smoke it very infrequently, as I believe it should. After nine years in jars it's developed a nice "bloom" of sugary rows. And so has the memory of that fine friend and mentor to many, who left us far too soon.

Just got back from a challenging hike in the Cumberland mountains, showered and feel like a million bucks! I'm about to load up a bowl of D&R Cockstrong in a Charatan Huntsman second.

I'll join you, irminsul, if I may in a bowl of Stonehaven in honor of this fine soul.

I am a big fan of the Stonehaven. I like it better than Penzance. I have some Dunbar and some Dorchester I havent't yet tried.

Sid, the weather in Athens looks better than here! For sure, i have wear boots only one day and my umbrella is still dry. In North Greece the weather isn't so good as here.

Martin, at this point, I don't know which I prefer...the Krylon triple thick crystal clear spray glaze or the DuraClear High Gloss Varnish...both yield excellent results...neither are difficult to put on. Glad I tried both.
Had a burnout hole in one of the cobs...put Elmers glue in the hole and on the inside I put pipe mud...so far it is holding after 2 bowls through it.

Had my Sunday morning smoke of Germain's medium flake in my Dunhill shell briar group 5 limited for Richard Dunhill. Already contemplating what I'll be smoking Christmas eve and Christmas morning. Just received my half pound of Straus Tobacconist's Wenceslas and looking forward to opening that.

Well, Lonnie-Dog may not be a fan of Fuselier's Ration. Either that, or in his rush to get some scratches, he was going to brook no obstacles. He's blind, so his jumping up onto the sofa is sometimes not well aimed, and his head hit the bowl knocking the Ration onto the sofa and the rug.
So, we're switching to JFM Bombadil in an older Linkman's Dr. Grabow #9723 De Luxe billiard. A great old pipe, and the two logo's line up perfectly.
