I picked up a couple of 1 pound boxes on the Mac Baren sale at Smokingpipes, some Navy Flake and HH Burley. My question is, how does the tobacco hold up in the bags inside the boxes? Do I need to jar right away or just let it age for awhile? Note that I have plenty to smoke in tins in the meantime.
I appreciate your insight and wisdom!

Jar it soon. From my experience, the tobacco isn't sealed very well.

My rule is that if it isn't vacuum sealed it goes into a jar.

What you might find is if the tobacco is moist, some of the moisture can evaporate from the tobacco and condense on the plastic, which can affect the taste of the tobacco somewhat. Maybe the condensed water leeches out some of the plasticisers or something. Not sure, but it happened to me.
I would jar it if you can.

Jars it is then. I picked up a couple of flats of the wide mouth pint jars yesterday at the local farm supply store. Thanks for all the opinions!

The jarring of the Mac Baren is finished. I would agree that the bags it comes in, while sealed, are not designed for long term storage. Both of the 1# boxes weighed slightly less than one pound (tobacco wt) which would seem to indicate that the boxes had already lost some moisture. The last picture is strictly tobacco porn.

...being redundant, but JAR ASAP... not sure torquing the lid is necessary, though... some members like to do that...

Like an oil filter, snug it up and then a little twist for me.
Love that last picture, reminds me of a brownie... which also reminds me that I havent had a brownie in a while...

I was thinking that a while back. It's also why I relabeled all of my jars and wrote MUCH larger than I usually do.
