Hello everyone- I was never a cigarette smoker, but I hear that some long time users of cigarettes have a diminished sense of smell & taste. - - - On the other hand, since taking up the pipe years ago my sense of smell & taste have been enhanced. I’m able to pick up aromas and flavors which can’t be identifed by others in my family. It’s my guess that as a pipesmoker, I take my time & focus more on the subtleties of various aromas & flavors.
What about you ? How has pipesmoking influenced your senses ? Thank you in advance for your comments

Most folks who smell my pipe smoke tell me that it reminds them of something other than what I'm tasting.

I'm in the opposite camp. I can't taste anything much other than smoke. And I wonder if my taste buds have been affected in general for other foods...although that might be due to me burning my tongue frequently on tea and freshly cooked pizza (I never learn).
I wonder would tongue bite do the same too - that the taste buds are kinda fried. I haven't had tongue bite since I first started, but I wonder would it dumb down the taste too. Whatever it is, I find that my taste is getting less specific over time. Whether it's to do with the pipe smoking, I'm not sure.

Your taste buds are alongside your tongue, stop burning your tongue with hot beverages and foods, one day you’ll most likely get your proper taste back, unless you have done permanent damage?!?!?!

I don't think we have any Indian members. 😉🤠

I smoked cigarettes for 30+ years and feel my taster works fine. I did quit for a year and didn't notice any difference in how food tastes. If I give an opinion on a how a blend tastes and I'm way off others opinions then I'll know they are shot.

When I quit cigs, about three weeks later I got a bunch of Chik Fil A nuggets with Polynesian sauce. I swear, those were the tastiest nuggets I've ever had. I noticed things tasting better for a little while, but then it normalized.
I can definitely taste different pipe blends, but not quite the nuances between them, but I'm getting there. English used to taste like English, but now I can tell distinct differences between, say Arango Balkan and Engine 99. Some of the straight Virginias, or VA/PERS I have a hard time picking out the differences.

For me, I think it comes down to slowing down and paying attention. - - I imagine good cooks do something similar.

Unfortunately, there isn’t an Indian restaurant within 100 miles. I would love to try some really spicy Indian dishes.

Try lowering your cadence and sit back when you have time and sip your pipe, instead of heavy puffing.....you’ll notice a difference 👌👍

Senses...when you are 75 you don't have any senses...you are lucky just to get up in the morning...so I don't worry about senses...long as the match works and sets fire to the tobacco...I'm good.

I think pipe smoking has had an effect on my common sense, PAD, TAD along with CAD seem to prove this thought.

I think years of doing so while pipesmoking has helped enhanced my sense of smell & taste.

I've smoked cigs for about 40 years now.I tried the patches, lozenges, vapes, and chantix.I do notice, even now,how they affect my taste buds. That is probably why I'm drawn to the english/balkan blends, more intense flavor.I don't pick up subtle flavors they need to be bold.A strong sweet virginia or a spicey va/per will always do well.I like aros more for the room note than the flavor. But no matter what I'm smoking I wait about 20 to 30 minutes after a cigarette before I light up my pipe.I prefer coffee but a strong tea or scotch are great for pairing my pipe with.If I'm trying a blend for the first time,it's lemon water.
