Here are some before and after of a Dr Grabow I am putting back to use. I have been experimenting with a light box I made, I think I need a new background white maybe? Hope you all enjoy, I will post some more pipes after I get some scratch and hit my next lick. imgur.com/a/69tspF3

Wow that's an awful nice hunk of briar for Dr Grabow, even with a few fills. And they used an appropriate stain to bring out the grain. I'm really impressed. I know Grabow turns out some very fine pipes in between the forgettable ones, but I so rarely see the nice ones like this Canadian.
How did you remove the paint? or whatever it is on the side of the bowl. (The spatters)

Looking good. I am really starting to like straight pipes. I assume that would be a canadien shape? Some beautiful grain. Nice work.

Looks darn good. With your light box you can use whatever background color you feel sets the mood with white being the best to highlight the pipe without distraction. I find at times flash is good to use in combination with the continuous lighting and depending on the direction and bouncing of the flash, will depend on how the product stands out.

I used a small amount of rubbing alcohol and elbow grease to clean the outside of the briar I started with a clean rag and water and then used a dab of 50% rubbing alcohol on a q tip to highlight the worse areas, the alcohol lightened the finish and patina so the fills are more noticeable. After a few months of smoking the pipe will start to darken again and blend in the fills. I love the older Grabows, the Emperor is the highest grade Grabow available if you ever see one check it out! The above Grabow is a lower grade but they are solid smokers.

My collection is dominated by straight pipes they are most comfortable to me. I do have a few bents also I like a bent while I am driving and I can puff away on a large pipe without much thought as to the pipe in my mouth. Or strain on my teeth.

I think I am going to get some white fabric to try out. Thanks!

Nice work! I just finished my first restore on a nasty old Grabow Riviera, there are interesting pipes lurking under the crud. I like the look of your Canadian. A fun pastime, the restoring.

Fine looking Canadian...fill doesn't affect the smokability of the pipe only the appearance...looks to be a solid smoker to me.

That's great work you've done there. The white background might help contrast with the colour of the briar.

That's great work you've done there. The white background might help contrast with the colour of the briar. I think so too, the crease in my current background drives me crazy also and the small threads in the fabric that show. I will surely place a solid color fabric thats not a ripped pair of dickies pants for the next photo shoot. Hopefully I can score some more estates soon to share with you all. Thankyou all for the advice and encouragement! Hope you all stay dry and warm on the east coast US, and all have a great weekend!
