I know the best taste comes from when the pipe is almost out (although, I don't notice any difference apart from that, 'it's about to go out' taste which is the same for all tobaccos).
However, I do love it when I relight and get that amazing plume of smoke. Makes it feel worthwhile.
Anyone else love that?

I'm guessing that everyone enjoys the large plume of smoke one gets when lighting their pipe, but when the best taste is achieved varies for me depending on the particular tobacco. It's rarely at the end of the smoke for me though. Some tobacco can be just as good to the end, while others can taste pretty acrid at the bottom of the bowl.

I use a technique, my pipe rarely needs to be re-lit. I get plenty of smoke, depends on the blend👍

I get quite a bit of smoke when I use the ‘breathing (or breath) method’ while smoking a pipe.

I just love it all...start to finish...just can't be beat! I agree, although my pipes have been few and far between lately. I think it's time to step back and slow down just a little.

I do a lot of thinking while smoking my pipes... I believe that thinking intently about someone or something is tantamount to prayer, no matter what your religion.
The act of breathing is the most obvious sign of life, and Native Americans (or American Indians, if you prefer) consider the act of smoking as prayer.
The plume of smoke you refer to is "visible breath"... and it is the greatest joy of my pipe smoking life, while I remember my ancestors, my children and my friends and watch my thoughts and good wishes to them ascend upwards.

That is a wonderful way of stating it. For me, smoking is also a lot about the visual aspect. Watching the plume of smoke dance and weave is magic. It's like creating a smoke elf.

Amazing way to put it, Martin.

Very nicely put. It brought a smile to my face. You should be a writer when you grow up.

In my rig, a lot of times when lighting up I get a huge billowing clod that hangs in the cab of my rig. I crack the window and the smoke scampers out like demons are on it’s trail.
More than once, when I did so, motorists sat next to me with a what the hell look. #ThespiritofGandalf

I agree. I generally tap the last 1/4th out with most blends.
