It’s hailing out, still took the garbage out and did a small grocery shopping before it starts to really come down again.
The forecast here.....blowing snow between 1 and 5pm........” what’s blowing snow “?? Up North it’s called blizzard like conditions.

Hopefully he has something larger to burn and not the furniture? He doesn't have a fireplace. Except for the one he has in his mouth. That makes for a dangerous situation in these conditions. Heat ranks high on the Hierarchy of Needs. Being dependent upon a single source is not good. Hopefully, they can stay warm. I cannot imagine living without a woodstove or fireplace. How else can I dispose of the maps, plans, and other documents when THEY come for me?

Just caught up with this thread. My thoughts are with JimInks and others in the same situation. One thing we did when moving into our current house, was to put in a stove. We didn't have a fireplace or chimney so there's a flue running through the house. On the rare times when the power goes out, at least we have an alternative source of heat. We also put in a gas hob so we're covered for power outages....But then again, this is Ireland... home of the temperate. We rarely get much by way of extremes here - just rain and plenty of it, but because of that, we're good at dealing with rain. Sun and snow puts us at a standstill - but that doesn't happen often.

We got 6” here yesterday before it turned to rain. This morning with at least 4” still on the ground the snow mixed with sleet has returned. The local weather forecasters say it should be over by 3:00 PM today. My wife and I are all battened down, plenty of home made soup and sandwiches, listening to Christmas Music, and watching the beautiful snow coming down. I have a bowl of Frog Morton assisting in giving me a sense of well being and contentment. Things could be a lot worse...

I recall Ireland gets chilly and damp. Good to have alternative heat sources. Bushmills only goes so far in providing warmth.

We had some peat incense but ran out. We also have some pinon incense that we have been rationing for decades. Christmas in Los Alamos was great.

Our power came back around 5:00 EST. Everything is fine. I was more concerned about having a longer power outage and losing all the food in the fridge and freezer, and that didn't happen. I got a lot of sleep, something I haven't been getting lately, so that was good. Suzy and Molly slept with us most of the time. I didn't mind losing heat so much because I kept a warm sweater on, and was fine. The roads are caked with snow and ice, so I'm not going anywhere tomorrow either.
Thanks for the concern, folks. I greatly appreciate that.

It was 62 and sunny today in SE Texas. Snow is in the forecast for Friday, I kid you not, a single flake.
