My brother sent me this.... We are all 2018 today β Today the whole world is the same age. Today is a very special day. It happens only once every 1,000 years Your age + your year of birth = 2018. This is true for everyone. It is both strange and inexplicable. Try it and see. It will not happen again for another 1,000 years. His buddy sent this: it's not magic, it's math! Well, I guess that could be amazing and inexplicable in Kansas. There is one caveat though, it doesn't work until after your birthday, so it only works for everybody on Dec 31st. But still only once every 1,000 years, give or take 999.

Except if your birthday hasn't yet taken place this year.
Edit: I didn't notice the bottom of the op. Sorry.
I don't get the 1000 year thing. Next year it will equal 2019, will it not?

After your birthday your date of birth plus your age will always equal the present year because how old you are is always the difference between when you were born and now. I don't see the 1000 year thing.
Or maybe it means not that it will equal the present year, but that it will equal 2018, but that will never happen again.
I am so confused. Is this a two pipe problem?

Is this a two pipe problem? You're first part is absolutely correct. Your age plus birth year must equal the current year always. Then every thousand year bit just means that only once every 1000 years starting with 18 AD will a birth year plus age equal a number with x018 in it. But every 100 years will get you a number that equals xx18. More trivia that doesn't matter

We are all 2018 today β Today the whole world is the same age. . . . Your age + your year of birth = 2018. . . . This is true for everyone. Except for the Chinese who are 1 year old on the date of their birth.

Except for the Chinese who are 1 year old on the date of their birth. The Chinese system is way, way too logical. To the point at which I just logic my age from Jan 1, because it is too embarrassing to be wrong about my age at any time. In my book, I am always ($CURRENT_YEAR - $BIRTH_YEAR) in age.

Yep, that's what I do, because after A certain age, the years go by so fast I forget how old I am.
