Evening, new smoker and I am in the market for something different. Been smoking on some cheap aromatic stuff and have had no luck. Some folks here have given me a few suggestions but just cant decide.
carter hall
lane 1-q
half+half
sir walter Raleigh
They all sound delicious but would like more feedback frankly. Reviews just don't seem to really get the point across. I've been leaning towards Carter Hall.
Looking forward to what yall have to say...

Try Carter Hall and Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic.......NOT the regular Sir Walter Raleigh ( which I can not smoke and enjoy ).
PS Call Smokingpipes tomorrow and ask for Chip. Explain your a new pipe smoker, tell him what you like and ask for some 2.oz samples.....you can’t lose....good luck.

I just ordered an ounce each of the Lane LTD tobaccos that were available on SP and am trying them out and haven't had one I didn't like. I'm still trying many different brands and getting an idea what I like. I would do what Ted suggests. And after all that,Welcome to the patch.

Normally the minimum amount of tobacco in bulk you can purchase is 2.oz. That’s the main reason I suggested calling Smokingpipes, Chip can make up some 1.oz samplers. You won’t be disappointed.....just enjoy 👍

Bulk blend samples are the way to go when you start. Try some match blends. It’ll steer you in the right direction. Much better than buying a tin for $15 only to find out it’s not your style.

Honestly, there is so much out there in all varieties I personally find it hard to make a suggestion. I have found some bulk blends I love and tinned blends I love as well. At the same times, I've found many I strongly dislike. While frustrating, its also exciting as you try things over time. Even if its a suggestedblend, doesn't mean that it is what makes your taste buds dance. But when you find that one that does, it's an exhilarating moment.
Im sure I have added nothing to this post though. lol

My current go to for aromatics are: - Scotty's Trout Stream or Butternut Burley
- The Country Squire's Second Breakfast or Old Toby
- J.M. Boswell Dan's Blend or Boswell's Best

I'd echo what others have said. Get a sample set and see what tickles your fancy.

I will chime in with one bit of advice. Once you find something with a flavor that you like, stick with it for a bit. There is a lot to figure out about this hobby (packing, lighting, cadence, cleaning, etc) and limiting one of the variables (tobacco) can help you dial in the others.
My tobacco of choice that I used to get everything else working was 1-Q.

Half & Half has a chemical casing present that prohibits me from smoking it. Never had 1Q, but CH and SWR are fine smokes in their price range. Do you specifically have to smoke cheap aromatics? haha

Sorry to hear about Chip RIP.
As acefour suggested some butternut burley, don't know of anyone not liking that...also Trout Stream and Candy Corn or Cinnamon Roll all are great aros in my opinion. Butternut burley will grab you for sure...you will like it enough to want to try the others too.

I am a big fan of Carter Hall. My favorite over the counter blend. And I have not found any tobacco that is better behaved. Great for honing those pipe smoking skills while delicious.

adding condolences to all the Laudisi family, his family & all who might have known Chip. I recall the "too young" passing of Barry Levin (early 40s) and pipemaker Steve Weiner, about same age.

The Lane 1-Q is a very nice smoke, I've smoked it and their BCA more than anything else.
