My mom still tells the story of the first birthday party I went to. Got to be time for the the song and candles. They brought out the cake and everybody sang. When it was over I apparently yelled out where are the donuts. Of course everybody was confused, so my mom had to explain that the tradition in our family was home made from scratch donuts. I had never been to a birthday party that had a cake before. So two of my kids have birthdays the 15th and 16th of December so I just spent the whole day making the dough, frying them up and sugaring. So just wanted to share and ask what's your special family tradition?

Since moving to NC, with family, there is no tradition......other than what’s important to them.

The way it works is that for the first 30 minutes after they come out of the fryer and get sugared they disappear from the pan instantly. Then after the first 30 minutes they will slowly start to develop a pile. After two hours of frying the pan is full and the food coma and sugar highs are in full effect.

For over 35 years we'd get a large group of people to go Christmas tree chopping at a tree farm. Afterwards we'd go to a local bar/ restaurant that set up a buffet for us and I'd play guitar and sing Christmas songs with the group. The children now have their own families and would bring their little ones along. My late wife would set up the day and bring candy canes for the little ones. Last year was our last as it became too much for her but the years that we did it became a nice tradition for so many friends and their families. My avatar is a picture of me playing at that last party. It's time for others to establish new traditions and I wish them well. It's important to have those things.

...traditions are great...with the passing of my wife I won't be keeping those, at least, this year...beside, its time for others to begin their own traditions...I'm looking forward to a peaceful, somewhat solitary Christmas...

The week before Christmas the girlfriend and I make sugar cookies with fun cookie cutters and decorations. We have done so the past few years. Not big on traditions, but a tradition that produces cookies I got on board with. Christmas day I go visit my Mom and Stepdad. Mom makes orange icing cinnamon rolls and we watch John Wayne movies. AMC does "Christmas with the Duke" all day usually.

I do not have a "tradition" around Christmas other than watching "Miracle on 34th Street" and "A Christmas Carol", 1951 with Alistar Simm. That is if they are shown on Dish.

First of all, those donuts look fantastic, addamsruspipe. Our Christmas tradition is to put up our tree around the middle weekend in November and, on Christmas eve, to have wine and cheese and watch Elf. Nothing terribly crazy, but we love it.

Nothing special really. Starts out with traditional Latin Midnight Mass, then in morning watching grand kids open presents and later gathering with family for Christmas meal and then probably watching "It's a Wonderful Life" or some other Christmas themed movie.
Those doughnuts look really good, BTW.

We always get a big box of See's Nut and Chews and are allowed one piece per day there is also a big bowl with all kinds of nuts in the shell along side a bowl with all kinds of fruits. We no longer exchange gifts as it is our belief that Christmas has become to commercialized and we don't have any little ones running around.

Almost zero. Listening to The Messiah and trying to find a live concert of same. Gifts for son and wife. Last night my wife hosted a gathering for a bunch of friends where we did The "White Elephant" gift exchange. Second year in a row, so it may become a tradition. Me, I don't like to do the gathering and eating and blabbing part, but we did end with a rousing game of dominoes.

Before my mom died, she made a date roll and divinity for her children and grandchildren. Not much since she passed. For the past 7 years we have been going to a family Christmas party at my nieces ranch in Chappell Hill Texas. It's great to have family around and there's always a new flock of toddlers to make it feel like Christmas. This year we had 11 between the ages of 1 and 10. And 39 deer grazing in the yard while we were eating lunch.

Wife and I used to go to the midnight service at First Methodist in downtown Houston every year. Thinking about starting it again.

Another tradition here is grumbling about what a PIA these "holidays" are.

Last year I left the house for a beer/McDonald's run and that's how I realized it was Christmas. Nothing was open.

Not much of anything anymore, unless family arguments count? Those donuts look phenomenal. dervis producing cookies for any event is a winner in my book. I love cookies!

Peter, you have been in my thoughts and Prayers. Enjoy the holidays as best as possible with your family. Same here Peter. I was gonna say the same thing...guess we Patchers are on the same wavelength...best to you, PeterD-Buffalo Spirit. No particular traditions here...we took presents for a friend for his rescue little girl dog...she is white like our "baby". Maybe tomorrow we will host both little dogs here at the house...let them play as much as they want. Seeing them enjoy themselves is as much Christmas as we can take...wife's son lives in WV..(shout out to Lady M)....I have no children that I know of (wild 60's-70's). Our only child is our baby chihuahua, whom we treasure as if it were born to us.
