I find myself having to go to England, at the end of the year. Places mostly between Manchester and London. Time is real short to get ready.
To take full advantage, do you have any advice on blends, or pipes, much more available in the UK that I should look into?
Pipe related events during first week of January?
Tobacconists I should not miss?

Try to find some Rich Dark Flake while you are over there. You won't regret it.

In the St. Jame's area, JJ Fox and Davidoff are must visits. No bargains in prices for either tobacco or pipes. I don't know Manchester other than its two football clubs!

Bell’s Three Nuns is a very different blend in the U.K. than US.
Condor Long Cut is not commonly available here, but it’s a common OTC in the U.K.
The whole family of Cadogan pipes is rare in the states. But if you handle a few you might see why few care to import them. Nevertheless there is a novelty in finding brand new Dr Plumb, BBB, and GBD on the shelves.

Try to find some Rich Dark Flake while you are over there. You won't regret it. I hunted high and low for RDF on my last work trip, to no avail. I don’t think it is available in London at this point. Next time I will just place a GQ Tobaccos order for delivery to my hotel

J.J Fox has a nice selection of Petes and a ton of cool stuff on display in the basement. Not too much tobacco, although they do carry Gawith. Davidoff has pretty much the same pipes you will find in a U.S. davidoff, but a rather nice tobacco selection. if you are a Dunhill fan, it’s worth a stop at the Segar and Snuff stall at the Covent Garden markets. They have quite a few on display, as well as some new old stock from a now-retired local pipemaker, Millville. The Dunhill tobacco shop in St James is not that exciting — it’s owned by BAT, not Dunhill, so it sells everything BUT Dunhill — DuPont lighters, Comoy’s pipes etc.

If you get the chance pop over to Kendal in the Lake District - the home of Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth! (Now merged - LINK ) Samuel Gawith used to do factory visits - but after the merger I am not sure they still can VISITKendal is only about 70 miles from Manchester - a short jaunt for an American . There is at least 1 tobacconist to visit - www.aireysofkendal.com/ No doubt it will have a few tobaccos that you havent tried yet The Lake District is a lovely part of the country - even in January. I hope you manage to get there!

Not sure if there are any B&M that will stock Germain's products. I found GQ tobacco took a couple of days for delivery. However, mysmokingshop.co.uk has next day delivery to Northern Ireland as standard. So if you're short on time you could order some Germain's from them and have it delivered to your hotel (just don't pay too much attention to the price). Alternatively, they have a shop in Preston which is about 28 miles away (as the crow flies, or as Google maps states), so you could pop in there and pick up your Germain's and other stuff there. If you're in London, CGars Ltd is there. I'm not sure if they have a shop, but you could pop in as it's pretty central. They also stock Germain's blends... goo.gl/maps/3pqgWqu82gvPipes might not have the same variation in price, but will probably be a little more expensive. Those have been covered by the people above. Since kirk13 worked in London for over a decade, he might be able to provide more info. And lastly, one of the best places about visiting the UK is Northern Ireland, and the fact that kirk13 and I are over here.

Blakemar Pipes are worth seeking out. I have several and grumpy owns many of their pipes. Very good smokers and very reasonable prices. blakemar.co.uk/

I have no recommendations for a pipe shop but you should seriously consider taking along an "American English to British English" dictionary...

RE: Davidoff in London. I have a particular fondness for that shop as I found a great Parker bent billiard among their basket pipes- 25 quid! (ca $40.00 US) That was two years ago.
I try to take at least as much tobacco with me that I could possibly smoke. Buying locally is a crap shoot, and often very pricey.

I'd had a wee look at the b+m shops, but being the the Shepards Market/Mayfair area I didn't visit them. The last time I went over that way,the police pulled me over to check my bank balance😨 There's another in Teddington, but it's cigars only...no pipes or lose tobacco

Condor's operations have been moved to Poland...yeah, that is right, Poland...the "new" Condor isn't worth sticking in your pipe...many have said so on another forum (gasp)...I've tried it my self...tastes like it was run over by the mail truck...just plain nasty and nothing at all like the Irish Condor of old. I've been smoking what is left of my small stash very sparingly...trying to make it last as long as I can.

Yeah, I was talking about the new, Polish-sourced Condor, from JTI. I suspect the troubles are rooted less in Poland, and more in JTI -- Japan Tobacco is a cigarette company, and they were never prepared for the amount of trouble involved in pipe tobacco and its many preparations.
I never had the "real" Condor, but I can say the new one ain't great. I would rather have St. Bruno any day of the week.
That said, it's a thing you can't get in the U.S. for love or money. It's an interesting tobacco if you're only gonna venture the money for a 25g pouch.
It ain't bad. I'll say that much for it. JTI's Polish version of Condor is a pretty good smoke. It's just not as good as St Bruno or similar. It ain't what it used to be, I guess.

The good thing is you can get St Bruno anywhere. Most news agents or supermarkets should stock it.
A 25g pouch will set you back just under £7 (just under $9 at today's exchange rate).

If you visit the websites of the big supermarket chains,it'll show what's available. Just don't expect the staff to know what you're asking for!
