My son started taking guitar lessons 6 weeks ago. He acknowledged that everyone in my side of the family plays multiple instruments. I bought him a cheap beginners guitar to start. He asked his teacher if he could play a song at their Christmas concert today and she agreed. Now, Jr is on the spectrum and has sensory issues, etc and every concert his school has had, he hasn’t wanted to participate or he would be severely anxious, etc. We practiced this song every night, both of us, guitars in hand in front of the Christmas tree for two weeks. He was determined and today he got his chance. AND he NAILED it! I was so proud of him. This is totally out of his comfort zone but he did it and after the show he came up to me and hugged me and said “thanks dad” I almost cried. imgur.com/a/oRwzA6N

My son is also on the spectrum. He showed some talent with the guitar, but he has issues with the joints in his hands and had to give it up. He can play keyboard for a few minutes before his hands start hurting. Congratulations on your son's performance.

Scott, you have every reason to be proud of your young man. Music lessons were the greatest gift my parents ever gave me. Playing in front of other people is nerve wracking the first time. I can tell you that it helped build my confidence in ways that followed me my entire life. I had my first lesson in March 1964 and still play today. Music helped my buy my first house from playing and teaching. It was also a great stress reliever from work during my career. I made a lot of friends through music and I believe that it also helped me academically. All I can say is that you should encourage him to keep at it. You won't believe the difference you'll see in him musically and otherwise in a year.

Keep encouraging him! That is fantastic! My musical talent is quite lacking and wish I spent more time on it when I was a young man.

In case anyone shares my ignorance:
Reason enough to be doubly proud!
A handsome lad there, I am betting that it will benefit him greatly going forward.

Awesome! I love to play the guitar too. nothing better to kill time. (Well maybe smoking a pipe.) "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"

That's a testimony to you as a parent, Scott W... To sit with him and persevere through the practices, spurring him on is what a good dad does. Even more amazing knowing what must be going through his head as he was playing and beforehand. Tell him, from me, that his performance has been seen throughout the world and he did amazingly well.

Handsome boy, you are justified in being proud. All 3 of my children learned to play the violin, For Christmas my neighbor would take a small stake trailer hooked to his small tractor and load his girls and my 3 and go along our winding street and serande the neighborhood. Wished I would of had the foresight to video them, he’ll appreciate the memory, I garronte!

The first time I saw it, I didn’t see the auto mute Icon and didn’t hear it. (That was the first time I watched an Imgur video)... well done!
