Had my first bowl of Plum Pudding today and all I got to say is WOW. This stuff is delicious.
Got to be honest, I was a little intimidated about this stuff since picking the tin up. The tin note is pretty smokey/latakia heavy. Not much dried fruit or anything I look for so far. So I was a little nervous firing a bowl up on whether I would have buyers remorse. However, upon flame hitting the tobacco my worries were gone. This stuff jumps right out of the gate with full flavors. Yes the smokiness is there but it doesn't dominate at all and works nicely with the fig/raisin/hay and even spice flavors that this stuff putts out in droves. It was amazing how much it puffed up after the charring light. Although it appeared a bit moist in the tin, it burned like a champ with very few relights. I did pack the bowl with mostly the bits that had fallen to the bottom of the tin verses rubbing out some of the chunks so maybe that helped. It was a nice cool burning hour of bliss. I didn't want it to end.
One thing interesting was the taste that is left on your lips and tongue. There is a sweetness left over. Not a chemical taste or a fake sweet taste (think of cigars that were dipped in sweetner, yuk) but a wonderful coating that left just a hint of natural sweet flavor on your lips. I am a bit of a drooler with the pipe and a clincher, and this thing had me foaming like a rabid dog. Didn't get in the way of enjoying it at all but it is one thing to note.
Only downside was I got some bad looks from the wife when I walked by her afterwords and she assured me I would need to change before heading to christmas eve festivities.
I think this one skyrocketed up to the top of my list.

It is definitely a popular smoke, so you have a lot of fellow travelers!
Especially in the cooler months you can mitigate the smell, by having a smoking jacket (lab coat with tight weave works well), wear a hat wash face and hands when done and brush teeth...dust yourself with febreze.
The only time I take such measures is going to church...they aren't antismoking at all, I just know that some people are sensitive to smells, colognes etc...

Plum Pudding regular and Reserve is one absolutely fantastic tobacco...can't imagine having a cellar without it...you'd be missing one of the greats!

It's one I enjoy but the Mrs. not so much. I started a little stash of it but am going to have to get some reserve. What is the difference between the two?

Like a dummy I only got two tins but it was new to me. I had a feeling it would be great but not skyrocket to the top part of my list like it did. Next good sale I see, I'm going deep.

First time I smoked a bowl as a sample I bought a pound. I had the same experience. Lit it up and said, "Wow!" out loud. It was also the first bulk pound I ever bought. Glad you like it!

One of the blends that I really liked when trying to gain an appreciation for Latakia. Your review is spot on. I never noticed any smell but with all of the blends I have going the wife just smirks and heads back inside.

I bought some of this awhile back but I haven't tried it yet.I opened my tin and put a couple of bowls worth through my hand grinder and set it out for either later tonight or my usual 3 am smoke while I read the insomniac thread.I'm looking forward to it.

roadsdiverged gifted me a tin for Christmas. Being primarily an aromatic guy, I was aware of its reputation, and I thought I would give it a try. WOW! It also shot to the top of my list. I ordered 10 tins from SP. I had two tins aging in the cellar I picked up at a sale, but I had never tried it. I just ordered 3 tins of Special Reserve to go with my aging 2 tins. The tin I got originally lasted me about a week. I'm definitely hooked on it. I've also ordered one each of the SPC non Special Edition blends to try them all out.

Sounds great. I guess I'll open a tin of Special Reserve. The only tin I have of standard is also the only one I have that isn't ruined with the ugly smoking warning. Saving that to look nice on the shelf among it's fellow SPC blends.

Well dang.... I guess I need to open one of mine! Just what I need... another open tin. I guess I hit a homerun LSUTigersFan ? Honestly, that ball is still in the air! Being an aromatic man, most English blends were not appealing to me. They tasted harsh. I tried Fuselier's Blend while re-reading Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe's series. I really liked it. I thought I had turned a corner. When you sent me the Plum Pudding, I tried it to see if the Fuselier's Blend was an oddity. But, the Plum Pudding floored me! It was a flavor explosion. I went through that tin in a week, and with all the tins and baggies I have opened, that NEVER happens. I am going through SPC's catalog during the rest of the holiday. I am eternally grateful. ...my bank account...not so much.

Cigarbid has been running a falling auction for 8ounce tins of Plum Pudding on and off for a few months now. The current auction has a few days to go. "It appears" the bottom price for this falling auction is higher than before. However a bid of ~25-26 per tin is still an excellent deal.

Where can one find Plum Pudding in bulk? As far as I know, 8oz tins are the largest available, and no outright bulk that Iโm aware.

This tobacco and Bengal slices are the only two tobaccos that my wife truly enjoys the aroma of when we sit outside in the evening while I have an evening pipe! Oh and the tobacco is divine!! One of the best ever blends that I have tried!

Thanks for the thread gents. DPCโs Plum Pudding is on my watch list and look forward to purchasing some. By the way, who makes Bengel Slices? Sounds very intriguing......๐
