Can anyone explain the purpose of following someone on this forum?
I feel I should know in order to help others.

I don't know either...sort of the "like" button...I keep forgetting about it and consequently rarely if ever do it...not that I don't like what is posted, but I'm old and I forget...just thought I'd throw that out there.

Paddy, I think if you follow a person you are notified when they post. think you would follow a person that interest you with their thoughts.

Is that kind of like dogs who sniff each other's........😁 I typically follow those who have shown an interest to follow me as well as relationships formed outside the forum walls.

I didn't even know that there was a follow option like for example flickr. All I see for each post are the Quote button, the Like button with the thumbs up logo, and the Wheel logo.

Thanks Legend, that might explain why I've never run across it before.

Maybe if there's a seller that you may want to be notified to buy a pipe?
There are many forums that have "insiders" that are not the normal posters. So, it saves time to check out what they are posting when 1000 people are on a forum every day (Think Alabama football discussion forum).
Most people here in this community are earnest and try to be tolerant. But, it's also small enough to be policed easily. There are some real toolbags on the internet. You put thousands together, and all hell breaks loose. I would never ever want to be a moderator on one of those big forums. lol

I just follow people around until the voices in my head stop.
Don’t know anything about the follow function on the forum though. When the voices let me know, I’ll fill you in.

Do you know if the notification is for every post or just new threads? No. You do not get notifications about people that you follow. You do get a notification when someone starts to follow you. The only use for following that I have found... Go to your profile page. There you will see two lists of people: the ones that you follow and those who follow you. Click on someone who you follow and you will go to their profile page. Then you can use the links there to see what content they have posted. To see what you can get notifications for, see the Notifications section of your profile settings.

I'm lame and have time to waste, so I eventually see most posts. I'm sure it's useful if you've got limited time to scroll and enjoy a particular member's posts.

So it appears to be simply a quick way to access people that you like. I thought there would have been more to it. Cheers John.
