I haven't posted anything in a few days. Been busy with Christmas stuff. My family gathered on a little island off the Alabama coast for Christmas. It is the birthplace of our parents and the place our grandparents settled long ago. It is known for its white sandy beaches. Here is a shot from the balcony looking south at the Gulf of Mexico. It is about 12 feet off the ground since all the houses there are built fairly high on sturdy pilings. That tiny dark spot in the water near the horizon is a shrimp boat. Mild temperatures (70s) made it all very comfortable. Feet propped up while smoking Wessex Classic Virginia in my Savinelli Cumberland 806. Here is the "band" at sunset. My brother is an excellent mandolin player, and very patiently tolerates my guitar playing. Our lovely niece (who managed to snag any of the "good looking" genes afloat in the family gene pool) accompanies on autoharp. We are no threat to Tony Rice and Ricky Skaggs, but we had a good time..... Hoping all my pipe-smoking brothers and sisters had a wonderful Christmas.

Those beaches is what Mexico Beach used to look like before the hurricane from Hell. Now they've lost much of the sand dunes and a lot of the frontage is gone too. Tallahassee was spared this devastation...had it hit here like it hit there...we would still be digging out.
