Glad I did most of my stocking up before this happened. I would venture to say you probably have one of the largest stockpiles of tobacco within the pipe community. Extremely smart investment for your future πππ I don't know about that. I probably know a dozen people who have more tobacco than I do. And I out smoke them all, most likely, so I'll certainly run out before they do.

Collecting state sales tax on items purchased isn't exactly a newly created concept nor necessarily a bad thing either. We've had things good for a long time fellers. Technically online purchases should have been accounted and paid for by the purchaser yearly at tax time. Those who chose to do otherwise. are simply lucky many states cannot/did not keep track or chose not to come after them.π PS I am not sure if the above applies to all states..

I purchase a lot of stuff direct online taxes have been in effect for some time for the big guys. Companies like Honeywell apply your tax at checkout. But what they want is to tax flea bay and Amazon sellers not so bad on a new item but a used item. Double taxation like moving to a new state and having to pay the full amount of sales tax on a car you have owned for three years AKA Nevada. Found a nice RV online at a great price and want to bring it home 20% AKA Texas. So you got a gas tax, natural gas tax, federal tax on your phone , state gas tax and many more on your top of paying your local sales tax. Then the big guys don't pay tax like GE, Google or good ol Warren Buffet or if they do it is under 3%. Between the freeloaders and the retired people who earned it that does not leave a lot of folks left over to pay the darn tax. If you enjoy paying higher taxes then as we say down south Bless Your Soul.

I once had a discussion with a guy that complained that internet retailers were not burdened with the same taxes as brick and mortar stores, I told him that the government could do a favor to the brick and mortar by relieving that burden instead of spreading the pain...that is paid by the consumer...businesses do not pay taxes, they pass it on to us.
Federal and local entities do not have a funding problem, they have a spending problem, and under the system as it is constructed, they are always looking at revenue streams to get their fix.
Case in point...I made a delivery to a school district of Soccer field goals... a full 27' trailer a few years back. When I made the delivery, the employees unloaded it in the dock pit, off to the side. I returned several months later and asked the employee why the delivery was sitting there weathered and looking like hell. Without batting an eye, he told me that they had to spend the allocation of funds so that their budget would not get cut next year...it wasn't something they needed.
I sure as hell wish my CPA told me that at tax time...that would be music to my ears, but I live in a different universe.
I shared the story with my brother that worked for a municipality in Wichita.... "Bro, that is the tip of the iceberg, it is criminal what goes on in the race to spend money"
Cleaning Larry's pockets will always be justified by those in power to helping the aged, and the working man...if you ask me, Larry punches both of them tickets, it is utter BS that a retiree that spent his life contributing to the nation deserves to have his pockets drained for the simple act of smoking a pipe in his humble abode.
Not a political thread, I think that this crosses ideological lines, and affects anyone that pays confiscatory expenses to fat cat politicians for redistribution to their cronies and buddies.

For the first 150 years or so the government was funded by tariffs. Now that is a bad word. Great Britain and Ireland have the value added tax, so the more you buy the more taxes you pay. It seems complicated but it beats a 1040. The stuff of government is going to have to be paid, and if you aren't paying attention a lot of it will be wasted. The main responsibility of the government is defending us from the Barbarians. After that come roads, justice, etc. Just add health care for all and you will see waste that will bring all of government's current responsibilities to a halt.

"No taxation without representation". In my humble opinion A State where I don't reside has no legal right to impose a tax on me because I have no recourse or representation. I see no consideration as well. If it was boatloads of tea, we should go dump it in the harbor. With all due respect, you are adequately represented in your respective state which means you should pay sales tax required by your own elected representatives when purchasing products from other states though the Internet from your own state. No tea bags required. Just common sense. That is what makes this tax different. I have no problem paying taxes for my Fed and State taxes. But for Cali to come in and start telling me that I owe them taxes is BS. Eventually if you do ANY business in a State, that State will want the ability to come in and Audit your books to look for taxes due. Cali and Wisconsin do this crap already. They are thieves.

Been paying internet taxes with Amazon for a while. Thought the Tax f#%KERS in California had reached the Absurd when they were thinking about taxing texts. Seems like Government knows no bounds, or budgets, we, back off when we are short of money, Government just keeps on, but itβs about to fail. IMHO.!Not political just a rant. Love and kisses to everyone Cher!!

I got my house converted to natural gas for free because the company had money left over that they had to spend otherwise their next year's budget would be cut. Plus, they'd profit from the gas bills.

As of January 1st 2017, I am charged Arizona State taxes at SPβs website.
As of Sept. 2018, P&C did not charge taxes.

NC got the ball rolling and I read this morning 17 other states have basically done a copy and paste and jumped on board. Just a matter of time until the rest do as well. The manner in which it affects individual businesses is obviously still to be seen.

And Humble couldn't tax a fur coat if the town depended on it. Amateur politicians. They serve as a public service. I am in the county so no city taxes anyway.

Well, you're swimming upstream against the 10th Amendment to the Constitution as well as two centuries of established constitutional law involving both interstate commerce clauses (yes, there are two) in the Constitution. I'm not going to bust a nut over it but best of luck to you.

Purchased my RV in FLA and had it delivered Tejas charged 20% of the sales price for buying out of state + regular fees for registration and license plate.. My cellar is full last online tobacco purchase was over two years ago. I have great story about a used Ford exploder I purchased in Nv and what I did to avoid their tax.
