I will say I've never done long trips like that with my wife always solo. She likes to ride but her limit without stopping is about an hour. And I've heard a lot of good things about can am's and how comfortable they are.
I would also be excited to meet up once the weather gets better and go for some nice rides.

I test drove a CanAm, and I didn't care for it at all. It was twitchy on the road and required a lot of attention to steering. It sits very low compared to a motorcycle. I know that they have improved them since then. They say that they are made for people who have never ridden a motorcycle but I know a several people who have both. Edit. One thing that I noticed is that you rarely see anything on the really wide open spaces except Gold Wings and BMWs. The occasional Harley and odds and ends, but fewer Spyders than you would expect. Where the towns are closer together you see all kinds.

Fun thread.
I knew we had to have at least a couple of folks here in the patch that were bikers.
Over the years I've gone through the phases that many here have...
Rode and raced dirt bikes, back in the 70's. Rode and raced street bikes, in the 80's. Sold my bikes back in the 90's.
So... "why are you posting here now?" someone out there bay be asking themselves.....
Wellllll... A couple of months back Blondie and I were out on date night. We were drinking Margaritas, and sharing fajitas @ Chili's before catching a movie.
Out of the blue she says "ya know, now that we're empty nesters, I'd really like for us to get a motorcycle again". (she was the one that asked me to sell em back in the 90's when she was pregnant with our first child)
Needless to say, I WAS STOKED!
So, fast forward a few weeks and..... We've got a slick little Fat Boy sittin out in the garage.
Definitely looking forward to the weather getting and staying warmer and date nights on the bike with Blondie.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I think it belongs here. Our local GWRRA chapter Education Coordinator was killed last Friday in a traffic accident on the way to teach a class on motorcycle safety, as she had done many times before. It can happen to anyone, and it can happen to YOU! ATGATT. Keep the shiny side up.

That's got to feel great to get back in the saddle ... congrats! Ronv69, really sorry to hear about your friend. That is certainly a tragic irony. Stay safe out there and keep the rubber side down. PS ... that new windshield I just installed is pretty nice. There's more wind buffeting but that was expected with a sport shield. Haven't tried it with the extension up yet.

IDK, hip replacement is doing pretty well, but not sure if I can either risk or afford getting another motorcycle. But loved the ones I had. Learned to ride during the summer of '74, on a 1972 Honda 350. My best trip, the winter of '83 - '84, 10,000 miles in Mexico camping on beaches, riding a red '83 Suzuki GS1100E. Most recent bike, a 2004 Triumph Sprint RS. now that I think about it, if money wasn't an issue, yeah, I'd get another bike. Please share pics of your rides.

Haven't owned many street bikes -- I know myself and I know a bad recipe when I see one. Probably the most interesting road-legal bike I've had was a '98 Husqvarna TT 600 (if I remember right). 575cc, 4 valve head; left kick, >12:1 and built for some high-altitude Reno --> Godforsaken hellhole race. I was told it ran 123mph on GPS, but you know how these stories are. What I do know is the bike was almost as scary as the 40hp shifter kart I had, but with a hell of a lot less available grip. I sold it for $750. Someday I think I'd like to set up an EFI ECU on some hot inline 4-stroke. Someday. Motorcycles are fun, but so is walking around intact

I've been riding for about 11 years now. In that time I've owned 9 bikes. My current ride is a 2013 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone. It's a fun little Italian bike and has a lot of character. It's not my favorite bike I've ever owned (which would be one of the two Suzuki Bandit 1200s I've owned) but for now I don't see myself getting rid of it any time soon.

Just be careful guys, I road many years and kept my distance from other vehicles. All it takes is one asshole’s mistake NOT on your part and you might become road pizza. Only time I’ve ever been down was on my ‘87 Aspencade, I was intentionally cut off on a parkway exit on Long Island. The bike had more damage than myself. I jumped clear enough off the bike so it would not fall near me. Idiots just laughed and drove away. Six other vehicles drove by without stopping to help, many others finally gave me a hand and called police. My bike had to be towed.

Belive me Ted, I'm ALWAYS under the assumption that they don't see me unless we make eye contact. Also, the humor is not lost here at work since I head-up the Blood Bank. Lol This morning's ride was brisk, baby!

Lol This morning's ride was brisk, baby! I have taken to adding a blaze orange safety vest over my motorcycle jacket. Cheaper than buying a new high-viz jacket, and I've definitely noticed people noticing me more out on the road. It's not an excuse to get complacent though, because we all know how terrible most drivers really are, especially with all the distractions of modern day life.

Funny moment yesterday ... Milo decided he was NOT being left just because I wasn't taking the truck. Dobbie just kept circling the bike in disapproval.

Darin, great pics of a nice bike and a cool dog! Yeah, wives have a way of tempering the adolescent in all of us - for better or worse. At least they don't balk at us spending money on motorcycles or tobacco... well, what they don't know won't hurt them.

Darin, is that a deer "horn" on the front of the cowling? (air whistles through to keep the deer from running in front)

That's a "Go Pro" mount that came with the bike. I remember those deer whistles from the Midwest, though … I think they actually CALLED the deer!

I had a pair mounted on my van as I used to drive through the mountains sometimes at night..never had an incident but never really knew if they worked...just didn't want to take a chance of having 600#s of meat in my lap.

I had a pair on a company Fury in the 1970. I had more close calls with dear in the next 3 months than in my life otherwise, but I only hit 2. I also have hit two in the other million miles and 53 years 9 months of driving. I like the odds of random chance better.
