This year was all about tobacco (I'll probably never smoke) but I did have a big year pipe in pipe travel. From St. Louis and New York in the very early spring to the GNPC in St Paul and the CPCC's "Big Show" in Chicago. A rainy wet long NASPC weekend in Columbus ending with The WCPS in Las Vegas. The highlite of the year was a Castello/Dupont set that I have wanted mostly for the lighter for years and a one of a kind for me Epoca that a buddy spotted for me on an Italian site! I'd enjoy hearing about your Your Year in Pipes.

Probably my happiest pipe moments in 2018 were finally acquiring an Ashton and an Upshall.

The problem is I can't remember which pipes I bought in 2018 and which pipes I bought in 2017, or 2016, or 2015 for that matter. I remember what pipes I bought last month, and thats about it. Its no use. This guy here was an amazing buy though, please, everyone do yourselves a favour, and buy a Shannon 80s. They're NOT expensive and theyre SUPER GOOD DOGGIES. This one I picked up off of SP. I'd buy another one from them in a heartbeat.

It looks like it was a good year treading the waters of the pipe world Dave, but at the risk of sounding like a sentimental old fool, I think the picture of you and the wife looking at the grandchild is the crowning moment.
The fact that you put it in there pretty much says it all... unless his name is Briar, or her name is Latakia.... sorry, can’t remember if you had a grandson or granddaughter.
I digress though... the pics look like still shots from a guy that hosts a cable show... Pipe Traveler... Pipe Whisperer, Pipe Picker???

That looks like it was a great year in pipes for you. Great documentary footage, brother. Some of those pipes look fantastic...and you got someone to light your cigar for you!! Wow. Happy 2019, daveinlax.

Thanks! I save those pipes for times when I just want to blend in. I rang in the New Year with a gold cap ODA Dunhill from that collection.
I've wanted that set since it came out but there was no way I could afford it till it was offered at a deep discount because the presentation box was water damaged. That white bar is so cool, the Castle and bar are not printed but are full lacquer.

Its no use. Unfortunately the sorrow of my pipe year was when the data base that I kept the collection was corrupt and disappeared from my computer. It's my own fault, I knew the software was not being supported but I was to lazy to do anything about it. It had pictures, detailed notes about some of the pipes history. As a collector it's tragic. I have a backup but without the software it pretty much worthless. I really need to $$it down with a computer guy to see if he can figure anything out.

I'm efforting a birth year Castello for little Aldon (Aldo in Castelloese) I know exactly what the pipe he needs, a big fat shape 15 le Dune with a taper stem and a big group 6 billiard or bent apple Dunhill will follow. I might even tell mrslax.

Happy 2019, daveinlax . Thanks! I've had the silver tray cigar presentation a few times before but it's always $pecial. It was a great way to spend a horrible afternoon in NYC before the pipe show starting on Friday. We killed the morning at Nate Sherman and touring the NY public Library, the afternoon at the Carnagie Cigar Bar and dinner at Gallagers before seeing frozen (during a NYC blizzard) on Broadway. I was never so happy to get on the train back to Jersey that night.
