Hi,
I figured most of us are codgers here so I thought I'd pop the question. Over the last few years, like many of you I'm sure, I've been plagued with prostatitis. I also have ic which is very rare and I'm sure none of you have. I've already been on every prescription for this. Even biofeedback physical therapy. Hell, even tried acupuncture for this. Nothings working. So I've tried plain saw palmetto. I got limited results with that and now I am considering super beta prostate. Aside from sitz baths and saw palmetto, is there anything else you might suggest that had worked for you? I am definitely going to check in India and thailand for some possible folk and natural remedies.
God bless and happy new year,
Ups
Also: has anyone tried super beta prostate?

Diatomaceous earth cleanse might be of interest to you. Don't plan on going anywhere for a week if you know what I mean.

The saw palmetto extract concentrate with pumpkin seed works for me, but not the powdered saw palmetto. You might try that.

Unknown........hope you feel much better soon!!!
Besides what Ron suggests which should definitely help, years ago doctors would recommend warm “ epsom salt sitz baths “, not only for “ roids “. Hopefully will help the “ hole “ thing.

Sorry I have not reached the age where I start talking about my ailments. Catch me in a few years, maybe then I can help.😁

I appreciate everything. As some of you are aware this is no easy issue to deal with. I appreciate all of the advice and well wishes.

Best of luck! I occasionally suffer from it, and IT SUCKS!!! Mine clears up with antibiotics, but I tend to become allergic to antibiotics pretty quickly.

Some people claim to get relief from Saw Palmetto Extract. I would not dispute their experience although I wonder how severe their BPH is. My Prostate is at the point of starting to affect my Bladder with scaring. A recent Bladder infection really set off my Prostate. Reading a report from Mayo Clinic, I think it was Mayo, there have been no conclusive studies on the effectiveness of SPE. From what I have read, it cannot hurt except maybe the bank account.

My urologist put me on Proscar, a generic prescription for finasteride. Made a WORLD of difference. BIGGEST adverse side effect is like reloading a .357 with just a primer.....” shooting blanks “!

My problem is slight, as I recall. I have been taking the saw palmetto and pumpkin seed extract for a long time. They quit making the brand I was taking and I had to go for a few weeks until I found a replacement. I did have some problems during that period. My three doctors approve. Apparently Proscar has side effects and they would prefer not to prescribe it.

53 years old and no plumbing problems as I've yet. But I would recommend herbals before going to drugs for this problem

This procedure called the urolift looks promising. Its basically a stent that they put in there to make sure the urine has a easy way out. They claim it has no side effects in most men after two weeks. Amazing, if true.
I mean, the main thing with me, is my system's problems are complicated. I've got nerve damage which mucks up my urinary system, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, and male interstitial cystitis. So I mean, I've seen some of the best urologists out there. And they're stumped as to what do with me. So I am sort of done with them, after the last two years, and turning more towards alternative medicine and maybe even this procedure, if that fails. Anyways, guys, I would really recommend getting tested for a bacterial infection. I did not have one, which really disappointed me, because if you do have a bacterial infection, a simple 1 month course of antibiotics does clear this up for most people. If only it were that simple for everyone!
Take care and stay healthy in this New Years.

I’m 63 and prostate problems starting. I have a Cystoscopy scheduled for February, which I’m NOT looking forward to. I wonder if showing up drunk is acceptable?

Most of the herbal type stuff such as Beta-Sitosterol, Pumpkin Seed oil will help a bit with BPH but they act only as a band aid just as the prescription medicines do. They do not shrink the prostate back to any significant degree. The latest research points to varicose vein in the urinary tract near the prostate as the issue. For some reason doctors call a varicose vein near the prostate a varicocele. Anyhoo.. the varicose Vein (VV) becomes defective and it shunts testosterone rich blood through the prostate instead of circumventing it. This increases the testosterone content by about 130 times more than normal. Testosterone does one thing really well... it makes things grow. Enter Vitamin K2 as MK7. MK7 has the ability to remove calcium deposits from where they do not belong and put them back where they do. They main cause of varicose veins and sticking heart valves is due to calcium accumulation. Absorption studies show the best dose for humans is approximately 360 mcg of MK7.There have been several human studies showing heart valves return to normal after MK7 and there are more studies currently under way. No such luck for varicose veins though the principle is the same. So in theory, get your varicocele functioning normal again and the prostate is deprived of the gigantic amount of testosterone so it slowly returns to normal. Don't expect your doctor to know anything about this. This info is still in the medical journals. Doctors are typically 10 years behind the current research. If anyone is interested, I take the Jarrow Brand of MK7 ( each pill is 90mcg so I take 4 per day). Another thing to remember is to not take Testosterone supplements. They will make things worse. YMMV

Fast forward to last march when i had some blood in my urine and the urologist thought a scoping my bladder and kidneys was a grand idea.. after all was said and done it was determined i have benign hematuria and there is nothing to worry about.the week after was something i would never wish on an enemy....shudder...

Well the super beta actually made things worse! I went off and my (really bad) prostate flare ended. It'll come back but hopefully not as bad as last time. I understand super beta does work wonders for many people. Just not for me! What can I say?

I don't trust any of these supplements.
Since the Hatch bill in '94, the supplement industry is essentially unregulated. They can sell you dog feces or cocaine in a pill, and as long as it is a "nutritional supplement" instead of a food or a drug, there's little or no accountability.
Perhaps obviously, the easiest way to make a dubious "supplement" effective is to include a serious-arse prescription drug in its formula, and lie to consumers about the content. (e.g. all diet "supplements" contain ephedra or ephedrine, despite it being very illegal to sell that over the counter)
I wouldn't take any bets on a prostate supplement. The odds of getting a blood pressure or kidney drug off-label are too high, and you won't be able to talk to your medical professionals about exactly what you are taking, because you can't know for sure. (Thank Orrin Hatch for the nightmare.)
