Wife and I have been under the weather for a week, slowly getting better. My Daughter and her family were in New York for the Ball drop. I tried to watch the drivel they called entertainment, told the wife with a million people we surley won’t catch a glimpse of them. Boy have our standards dropped. Finally I told wife if you want to watch this crap I’ll go in the living room and watch something else. No she said this is awful. Thank God Amazon Streaming BBC Shows came to the rescue,.

I was spared much of that hoopla by falling asleep in my chair around 11:15 and woke up around 1:00 AM. Sometimes being older is a blessing.

Yeah, I read it's getting torn up on social media. I had no plans on watching it, and I am glad I did not. I despite the big networks, and their self-appointed task of pushing their social agenda down my throat.

I never pay much attention to the televised NewYork festivities, but it was on in the background... Steve Harvey seemed pretty lame, changed channel to see Dick Clark’s show the entertainment was pretty lame... Karaoke singers at a sports bar would have been more entertaining.
Just an annual reminder why I never really watch it.

Some of the acts were hit and miss and the weather did not make the show any easier. No I didn't watch the ball drop the show really didn't grab my attention at no point did I feel ashamed just a little bit older and out of touch with my long lost youth.

I hate all that pre-show entertainment. I never watch live TV anymore. I've saved myself a lot of annoyance.

Not much interested in the New Years hoopla.
I watched old movies. "Titantic", 1953, and "Double Indemnity", 1944. I live in the past.

As for me I could give a 💩 to watch any ball to drop! Years ago during happier times I watched the festivities with my Mom and the love of my life. Since then I might have seen the ball drop twice. Here in NC an acorn drops @ midnight....oye vey
More important Brad, is that you and your wife are feeling much better.......that’s GOOD NEWS for New Years Day!!! Be well👍👍👍

Glad you and your wife doing better Brad....I didn't watch any of that mess either..I just don't know how young folks think these days.If they weren't watching that stuff though the media would put something different on.

Be well👍👍👍 You reminded me of my old mother. She loved New Year's Eve. When my dad was alive, they would go out. In her later years, she stayed home and always prepared a broiled lobster tail and enjoyed one or two glasses of a modest sparkling wine. When I lived in the same city, I would bring over a bottle of real Champagne. She always watched the festivities on TV. TV was still a big deal for her as she was born in 1917. Happy New Year, Mom! It is always New Years where you are now.

I'm only 43, but I've hated New Year's Eve coverage since my mid teens. That said, I've always been an anti-establishment weirdo, so I've never really liked any popular cultural norms or conventions. I walk to my own beat. My wife was watching one of the shows, so I sat and read the forum and other stuff, with that as background noise. I did watch the ball drop, kissed my wife, and woke my daughter up to say "Happy New Year!".
I'm a grumpy old man, when it comes to popular music (again, I have been since I was an in my early teens). I like what I grew up on, some of which you old guys would probably hate, but now I, in turn, hate just about anything new. So, the cycle continues. I dread what my kids will be into, unless it's not mainstream, which means people are actually writing it themselves. I may not like it, but at least I can respect that there is genuine independent songsmithing happening.

I was in the company of a collection of people who were first generation descendants of White Russian immigrants. They were an interesting group. They all dressed like it was 1930. Men in double breasted wool suits and women in high necked lace gowns. Very formal, one woman was clearly royalty. We drank nice French Champagne and enjoyed Russian small dishes. The music was classical with a little early jazz. Some graceful respectable dancing. I liked them.

In bed by 10:00 PM last night. Woke up at 5:00 AM and took the cattle dog for a 3 mile walk in the park at daybreak. I was mildly surprised there were also some other like minded folks out with their furry friends this morning.
Life is good. Looking forward to the new year.

Glad you and your wife doing better Brad.
I see we pretty much think alike regarding "entertainment". Got rid of the cable/satellite about 15 years ago...need news I've got the internet, need entertainment, I'm right here. I enjoy the company of my wife and puppy, couple of real friends, too. Other than that, the Patch is my social place, cause there are no finer folks to be found anywhere.

Someone must think lip syncing auto-tuner songs is entertainment. I'll stick to my jazz, blues and jam bands. TV is an abomination. Got rid of it 3 years ago.

That’s why I watched the local San Antonio celebrating 300 years, at Hemisfair Park in downtown. Great entertainment, local celebs, fantastic firework show, and we didn’t have to watch “what’s her name” stand up the and play with her coochie in NY.

The Mrs. , kids and I were at a comedy show and dinner last night and they turned the TV on to watch the ball drop. We had way better entertainment than what was on the boob tube. We haven't watched the shows on NYE since Dick Clark hung it up.

Each to their own I figure. I’m just glad I don’t feel compelled to join in the New Year’s Eve hoopla and haven’t for many years. Note that I’m certainly not anti-hoopla, just the sheer concentration on one intentionally hyped night is not my thing.

Am I the only one who genuinely loves the schlocky, hackneyed NYE shows?
I especially enjoy Steve Harvey because you can tell he’s just doing it to pay the bills.

I bought a TV antenna to watch two things a year:
1. The dumb shite on NYE
2. The Winter Classic on New Years Day
