I was given a small pinch of Penzance to try I enjoyed.but was told it's hard as hell to find. its like the holy grail or a unicorn. but is there any other tobacco that stacks up too that?

Arango Balkan Supreme- According to a member who was a huge fan of Penzance. Well... He said it 'scratches the itch' so it's probably got some things in common.

That same member really likes the Sutliff Crumble Kake English #1 as well. Dramatwist, can you confirm, or maybe give your opinion about this? I know you've posted about it elsewhere, but your opinion and wisdom is much respected, and appreciated. I think we all know that Penzance is Penzance, and there's no 1:1 match, but I know you've honed in on these two blends for a reason. |

It will undoubtedly be in stock again soon. Sooner than Penzance anyway. And yes. Dramatwist was the member I was quoting. He would be a great guy to ask. Arango Balkan Supreme is not the same as Penzance (and I believe JimInks agrees with me) but for me, there is something in aroma of Balkan Supreme and the taste in the smoke itself that renders what I liked about Penzance... and I liked Penzance a lot. I'm no reviewer, and can't break down the nuances a la Jim, but having smoked Penzance since 1998 or so, the Balkan Supreme was close enough that I knew I was done chasing it. I recently received an old 2oz tin of it from @10furlongs, but I'll probably never smoke it... it was the small tin, and that was how I was introduced to it... just wanted it for display. Arango Balkan Supreme also recalls the venerated Balkan Sobranie 759... I believe it won a contest some years ago. |

Thank you as a New pipe Smoker am trying to find things I like. but as good as Penzance was m not willing to chance that dragon. so am looking for things that are like it. |

another fantastic blend, and inexpensive to boot. I cut my teeth on Peter Stokkebye's stuff. I haven't had much by PS that I didn't like. One of my favorite no-brainer smokes is Natural Dutch Cavendish. It's nothing like black cav, if you haven't tried it. Just a nice, mellow, natural tobacco. |

I 2nd Arango Balkan Supreme for whatever that is worth.
Peter Stokkebye English Oriental Supreme is also a favorite of mine whenever I'm actually in the mood for "that" type of tobacco.

Penzance is one of the fabled "Unobtainables" . It's mainly used to smoke your "air pipe" ! If you want to smoke a real latakia based blend which will give you a taste of one of the most famous Balkans BS 759, get some Balkan Supreme. I smoked 759 for over 30 years and after I lit up my first bowl ABS I'd knew I'd found it again !! Get some, you'll like it !
