Just received a few tins of JKP today dated 12/18/18. Too fresh to smoke ? Let it age for a few months ?

If you smoke JKP fresh, rub out enough for a bowl full. Let air dry for roughly an hour....enjoy!
FAR better with at least 2 years of aging, no harshness, much more mellow👍👍

It improves a bit with age, but you may want to open a tin and try it. You can always jar the rest.

One of the best blends. A great mixer too!

I've smoked it fresh and for me it was a real hard hitter. I admit, I do better on lighter blends but I have been advised by those more wise than me that it's better with age. So, Im giving it the time it needs.

Agree with others that it is better with some age. It is still good fresh too.
Pop a tin and try it. Save the rest for another couple years. At least you'll know the differences.

I'm not really a fan of the GLP blends I've tried. Most were English blends and while not bad, I preferred those made by Dunhill, Rattray, and Esoterica Tobacciana. GLP tobacco always seemed a bit green to me.
How does Jack Knife Plug compare with HH Old Dark Fired or Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky?

It's been a while since I have smoked JKP, but from what I remember, ODF is the most similar, with probably more sweetness and smoothness to it. Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky on the other hand is even a little sweeter and about as smooth as ODF. I prefer Peter Heinrich's Dark Stong Flake to Orlik's Dark Strong Kentucky. They are definitely very similar though. I believe the only difference are the toppings (molasses on Dark Strong Flake and licorice on Dark Strong Kentucky, if I remember correctly? I may have those reversed though). Out of the three, I believe ODF is the best of the tobaccos, followed by JKP, and lastly Dark Strong Kentucky. They are all good though. Other opinions may vary.
