PSA, if you want to enjoy your smoke, put down the IPA's.
I kind of new what would result when I stepped outside on my parents deck over the holidays to enjoy a bowl of Plum Pudding and happened to grab an IPA from the fridge. I knew the results from making the same decision with a good cigar. IPA's absolutely kill any flavor from a decent tobacco. It is amazing. They don't make the smoke taste bad in any way but they somehow strip away everything that is good in a blend. Didn't think it was possible to mute out plum pudding and all its goodness but that IPA rendered it down right boring. I thought I was having one of those "off" smokes but I put the can down for about 15 minutes of the smoke and the flavors slowly came back. Another sip of the IPA and by by flavors.
From now on I will stick to soda, coffee or dark liquors and save the IPA's for when I am not smoking.
Just wanted to get that out there so no one else makes the same mistake on a quality bowl of baccy.

I concur , I don’t like IPA”s with any tobacco. I actually don’t like drinking with food either.

I must disagree. A dank IPA is the perfect match for some natural Va flakes. Golden slices or FVF pairs well.

Hmmm, I will try some FVF with an IPA to see if my mind will change.

As many know, I like a pint of milk with my tobacco - it smoothes it down...Guinness might do the same, now you mention it, Dramatwist. Off to the shops...

I don’t like IPA’s under any circumstances. I thought I didn’t like Guinness either, until I had it on tap at the pipe club meeting place... not sure if it was the passing of time, or the difference in delivery.

It's also best in Ireland. You should come over and see for yourself.

I asked the wife a few years ago where she would like to travel internationally... when she said Ireland, I about jumped up and clicked my heels, as my answer would have been the same if asked. It will happen at some point

I agree. I like lager with Lat heavies, as it almost cleanses the pallat between puffs.
I also love a rich stout with VAs. The sweet tobacco cuts through the the bitter, malty aspects and works together well.
Burley works with anything. Haha
Just my pallat of course.

Love smoking bright, sweet VAs with Guinness in particular.

I had my first and last Guinness at a pub in Kenmare. I can't imagine how it could taste worse. It tastes like it was brewed from beef stew and oatmeal.
IPAs weren't invented to taste good. They were supposed to survive trip between England and India better than the regular beer. People didn't like the taste in the days of sail and most without man buns still don't. God I feel old today. ☢️☎️🎥🛁⚱️🗿

I'm actually letting my beard down tonight as it were. Haha Just drinking cheap adjunct lager (Coors Banquet) and smoking Peretti Thanksgiving. Having company, so it'll probably be an aro-heavy evening for their sake.

I'm old enough to rememeber when the only thing on the shelf was American adjunct lager and if you wanted to get fancy, Moosehead or maybe a good German import was what ya got. I'm also young enough to be open to the beer explosion that hit back in the late 2000s. If I'm honest, it was a chore at first. Forcing microbrews past my stubborn pallat, but eventually I aquired the taste for stouts and IPAs. So far as the man buns... Can't let idiots spoil your experience. Haha I've been drinking PBR since the 8th grade because it was cheap. Still the favourite swill of my friends and I. But when I go to a hipster bar, they see my beard, tatts, and flat cap and say in a patronizing tone 'let me guess, you'll have a Pabst?' hahaha I then explain the hat is hiding a bald spot, the beard hides a double chin, and I'm poor. So yeah. Pabst.

Yuengling is a staple when PBR isn't on the menu. I love wine, but the metalhead bars I frequent have horrible choices. In fact you're lucky if you have a choice between red or white.

My taste just changed and I started craving the stuff. Just like beets or horseradish- I hit an age where my tongue just wanted things I used to hate.

Maybe next year you'll be living in Ireland and it will be your staple.

Hmmmm. Russian River Brewery makes a big variety of IPAs. I'll just have to try every one with a bowl of English, followed by every one with a bowl of Virginia. If there are any significant results before I pass out I will let you all know.
