I had my first and last Guinness at a pub in Kenmare. I can't imagine how it could taste worse. It tastes like it was brewed from beef stew and oatmeal. IPAs weren't invented to taste good. They were supposed to survive trip between England and India better than the regular beer. People didn't like the taste in the days of sail and most without man buns still don't. God I feel old today. ☢️☎️🎥🛁⚱️🗿 The biggest problem with the IPA's today is the ones made by craft brewers today are nothing like a traditional IPA. The traditionals were heavily hopped in the brew kettle and no hops were added for flavoring and they were higher in alcohol content, then they were dry hopped to help prevent it spoiling. For the most part it is a well balanced ale with the hops giving enough bitterness without taking away all the sweetness of the malt with a nice hop aroma. The new IPA's or as we called them way back when APA's "American Pale Ales" are just a full assault of hops. A massive dose of bittering, flavoring and some more tossed in at the end of the boil and some more in the fermenter makes it so all you taste is hops. If you can, see if you can find an English version of an IPA and try it. you'll find a big difference between the two.

As many know, I like a pint of milk with my tobacco - it smoothes it down...Guinness might do the same, now you mention it, Dramatwist . Off to the shops... Milk rocks with tobacco. Overly milked coffee, too

I'm not ad knowledgeable as some of y'all, but I am enjoying a session IPA from Lidl, which is surprisingly good, along with a bowl of a mild English from a local blender, and I'm actually really enjoying the bowl. Probably the 4th smoke of this blend, and I'm getting more sweetness from the Va, and more of the tanginess from the Orientals than I have any other time I've smoked it. I won't put it down to the beer, but it's definitely not muting the flavor. Of course, this isn't a super-hoppy IPA either

Hmmmm. Russian River Brewery makes a big variety of IPAs. I'll just have to try every one with a bowl of English, followed by every one with a bowl of Virginia. If there are any significant results before I pass out I will let you all know. Let me know how that night works out for you.

Have been enjoying Belgian sours of late. Very nice alternative to IPA's.
Similar combination to many Va tobaccos. Sweet/sour with a touch of salt.

I respectfully, but strongly disagree! My absolute favorite combo is a sticky IPA paired with a VaPer or VA. Try an IPA with some Orlik Golden Sliced or Gawith St James. If you want a real treat, try some Esoterica Cardiff with a good fruity IPA. It’s delicious! Cardiff has a topping to it that comes off rather citrusy and it pairs great with an IPA👌👌
I save the Latakia smokes for stouts and whiskeys.

When I went to college my friends and I frequented an Irish pub in Santa Monica. They had Guinness on tap and served it by the pitcher (the only way to drink when you're in college). I think that motor oil fueled my studying and carried me to graduation.
