Hi there.
Hello from the Far East (Singapore). Started smoking pipe three months ago. Just wanted to say ‘Hi’ to all the folks in Briar Patch Forum. There is limited pipes and pipe tobacco shops here (you can count with one hand) not to mention kindred spirits. So far in the span of three months since starting I have contracted a mild PAD. Got a few Savinellis, Rattray’s pipes and a number of Missouri Meerschaum corn cobs. Am mostly smoking MacBaren Vanilla Creme as my staple. Tried Lane 1Q, Samuel Garwith’s Squadron Leader and Dan Tobacco’s Devils Holiday. Tobacco is really pricy here due to the high tobacco taxes (e.g 50g of Lane 1Q costs S$50 ~ that’s about US$38 here). Am currently smoking a MM Mark Twain corn cob with Vanilla Creme as I am typing this...

As for cigarettes, A pack of Marlboros (20 sticks) in Singapore is about S$14 (us$10) and shops cannot display any cigarettes or and posters and stickers that advertise cigarettes. Think cigarettes are more expensive in Australia ($25-30 for a pack of 25 sticks). I have never been a regular cigarette smoker before smoking pipes. One or two sticks (I can’t even finish a pack of cigarettes) every few months when out drinking with the boys. Even then, my friends say I waste cigarettes since I hardly inhale (a habit). One thing I just found is that after pipe smoking, for me, cigarettes seem to be off putting. Is that normal?

I was never a cigarette smoker, so I can't fully comment. |
