I know many of you have come up with your own special creations. I know I have. Some have been phenomenal, others (most) have sucked like a Hoover. I'm curious to hear about your successes and failures. Tell us what you have put together and how many iterations it took to get there. What makes it different from some other commercially available blend? My current mixture is a combination of Cornell & Diehl blending tobaccos. Cube Cut Burley, unflavored Black Cavendish, and a dash of Perique. As woodsroad said last week before the Morley's meeting, it's a "codger" blend. This of course suits my tastes and in general I have no complaints about it. It's strong, has good flavor and is surprisingly smooth. The C&D Cube Burley can be a bit harsh at times. I have noticed that C&D does not seem to process their Burley the same as some of the other well known blending houses like L.J. Peretti and Uhles. Less of the common casings and more au natural. I think C&D is really a top notch Burley blending house, but you better be prepared to experience the natural rough around the edges flavor that Burley can provide.

Sparks:
I love Dunhill's My Mixture 965, particularly the older iteration, but for some reason have wanted something just a bit sweeter here of late. After surveying my cellar I decided to try mixing 965 with Lane's BCA (black Cavendish), and the result was surprisingly good! I have christened the result "Fox Ridge Mixture."

I constantly fool around with tobacco leftovers or tobaccos that I don´t particular like for some reason or another. Lately I decided to unclutter my tobacco rack and filled every Virginia tobacco I had into two large glass containers. VA is not nessecarily my pair of shoes and so I started experimenting. In the end I ended up with a blend that I like very much. Too bad I will not be able to recreate it. Nevermind, sometime I even plan my blends and make notes. In one of my first blends I managed to come up with a proper Balkan blend from several tobaccos I didn´t like. Then I went to plugs which was a bit of up and down. I haven´t made much progress lately and need to get back on it soon. The last blend was very much planned for and I used pure blending tobaccos for that. It is my own English Mixture and it came out fairly well although I hoped for more sweetness. Well, maybe next time....

There's nothing scientific about my mess. I toss leftovers into a jar and let them stew in their own juices. There are probably 40 different blends. I don't some it often, at least not in a year; but it's aroma is more sweet than I would have expected given the number of latakia blends in the mix. I'll have to revisit it when I get home. BTW, I've named the jar "Toaster Leavin's" as a tribute to Al Bundy from Married With Children, my favorite all time comedy.

Completely agree, Sparks! After ordering some whole-leaf Burley (Natural, Air-Cured and Fire-cured) I can definitely tell the difference. The only other blender that I've tried so far which also has very low-casing products is D&R ... closest to whole-leaf yet.
Here's an English blend that you can make using McClelland #5100 along with P&C's blending tobacco:
3 parts Red Va 2 parts Latakia 1 part Perique 1/2 part Green River Unflavored Cavendish
A Va/Per with some kick:
3 parts Red Va 2 parts Perique 1 part DFK
Recent RYO recipe I made for a co-worker using whole-leaf tobacco:
60% Red FCV 20% Semois 15% Samsun Turkish 5% Perique

Nice stuff, Cob. Man, each of those sounds like a kicker.

Messing around with an idea. Putting the leftovers of Rubbed out Flake. You know the stuff that dosent fit into a bowl. Into a small jar have no idea what this will be like.
Also if you haven't tried Justin's homemade Blend you have missed a good smoke.

3 parts Sugarbarrel 1 part McClelland 2000 1 part Stormfront
Burley body, VA sweetness in the background with a hint of smoky cigar kick.

After a few bowls I have to say that that I like my English blend quite a lot. To be more specific:
50% Latakia 25% Cavendish 25% Mysore Virginia 5% Perique
All tobaccos are of the pure blending variant.
