I was out on a job and passed by a local B&M and decided to stop in. There are two different locations and the other one when I stopped they kind of blew me off and haven't been back since. This one a young kid named Cory was very helpful and I grabbed a couple ounces of Lane bulk that I didn't have. I go to check out and behind the counter I see the mother load of tinned tobacco. I got 3 Nuns, Holger Danske, Peterson 1865, Savinelli Essenza Cipriota with a tin date June 2014 and one each Metropolitan 314, 509 and 536. Cory was in shock that I was buying all this and gave me the Lane bulk that I had and a voucher for a 16 oz. free, Plus 10 Boveda humidity packs, a carton of wood matches and some pipe cleaners and a couple packs of balsa filters. I will be back at that location again. They also have good selection of C&D tind and GL Pease.

Now that's the way things should be. He was probably glad to be rid of the "old" stuff. Beautiful story.

Seems that even at his young age, Cory has figured out the key to good customer service is to be good to the customer...and not blow you off, like he had other things to do and you were just an inconvenience in his store. Congrats on the haul and the good customer service...you might mention all this to the owner, who will be proud that he hired this young man.

I always enjoy bragging on an employee to their boss. It is especially fun when the employee hears me talking to the boss.

Wonder if Cory just sold you the cache the owner smokes from when at the store...at a discount?

Ot is nice to hear of great customer service... I once heard on a podcast that it is always good to ask questions in amokeshops and cigar shops about tobacco that isnโt out on display. The golden days of pipe smoking might be in the distant past for a shop that saw value only in cigars, and the tobacco was put away.

Had to kill some time today and stopped back to see Cory at the B&M. I picked up a tin of GLP Silent Nights and wanted to try one of the bulks called Christmas Spice. He let me pack a bowl of it and when I got my Zippo out it was dead. He took it from me and returned it filled. I tried the blend and decided to get a couple ounces and store it for next year and was bumming around got some coffee and went to check out and was only charged for the tobacco. He gave me the coffee and of course more matches and a Boveda pack for my new tobacco. This kid is making sure I become a regular there and he will get more business from me.

Sounds like you had some fun! I'm starting to like going there. Haven't come across any pipe smokers there yet mostly cigar smokers but I guess there are several pipe smokers who shop there. I have to get down your way and visit Allegheny Smoke Works. It's only about an hour or so drive from me.

Wow sounds like your new home away from home. Cherish it. The only local tobacco shop near me is all cigars and hookahs and just a few tins of pipe tobacco. I asked the girl behind the counter if they minded if I started a pipe meet up there and she said no. Pipe smokers tend to bring their own and not buy anything from us. I suggested they get at least some decent bulk and maybe they'd sell more. Needless to say I don't stop there anymore. I am glad you found a good customer caring B & M.

I had another place closer to me and online advertised some pretty good blends and when I got there they had OTC's and no bulk as advertised. I grabbed a pouch of Borkum and the owner asked if I was a member of the NRA and I'm not and he berated me for not being a member. Won't go anywhere near that place again.
