I knew our Mod John smoked Temple Bar and liked it. This is the flake version. It's an unusual blend in that it combines Oriental without Latakia. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, Lat and Oriental go together like peas and carrots. Without Lat, it separates this one from the herd. It's quite unique and will either hit you between the eyes or likely be a swing and miss.
The flake rubs out easy. There's not much moisture and twenty minutes dry time is sufficient. Out of the tin, I detect prunes and oranges.
I've smoked it in both briar and meer.
There's enough sweetness to like for lovers of Virginia leaf. You can definitely taste the Red Virginia notes; however, the Oriental leaf adds simultaneous sour notes. The best metaphor I can apply is a cross between apple cider and vinegar. That's not to suggest a McClelland vinegar influence, just to say there is an equal amount of sweet and sour.
The Perique is condimental and never comes forward. It reminds me of my favorite Pease offering, Quiet Nights. I don't detect any pepper similar to a true VaPer. You'll know it's there but doesn't dominate.
It's sweeter at the top of the bowl and sours going down. There's no chance of bite and finishes to gray ash with only a couple tamps. I'm a nic wimp and there's not much here which works for me.
Plays well with tea on the side. I want something else after a couple bowls; however, this is an incredibly smoke if it's up your alley.

Very nice review. RF along with Temple Bar are two of my favorite G.L. Pease blends.

Thanks y'all. I don't post many reviews because others here have far superior taste buds but thought it was worth a mention as I haven't seen many enjoying this one in the WAYS thread. It's not overly expensive and readily available.

Wonder if they sell the RF in 8 oz? I got Triple Play in the larger but never seen Temple Bar either. Like to stock up on some and think it would be cheaper.

My current SP cart is full of Pease blends. I have a few tins of his doing on my shelf- to include a half dozen tins of Quiet Nights, but Gas Light is the only blend I have tried to date. I need to 'get on the ball' as my dear old Ma used to say.
