Often when I'm sitting in my chair smoking my pipe my mind drifts.Where it goes I never know. Some times I think about things I've read here, and why this is my favorite forum.Last night it came to me that when I come here I feel like I'm in an ongoing conversation..I don't get that feeling any place else.I feel at ease here like I'm among friends.I don't have any other pipe smokers to hang out with.My friends are my friends but we disagree on so many things that I seldom get into real conversation with them. You folks make this a great place to hang out..Again I thank you for the joy you bring into the life of this old pipe smoker..I wish you all good health and happiness.

You're a great encouragement to this group. I, too, feel like this is an ongoing conversation. I'm glad to be a part of it, and I'm glad you're a part of it too.

I haven't even been her at the Patch long, but I find myself always checking in to see what everyone is up to and into. Ive answered many questions I've had just reading old threads. I don't have a pipe club, nor do I have friends that share my interests in pipe smoking, or in general really. Glad to have a place to discuss such things, no matter where I may be physically. It's the only "place" I see myself actually being for a long duration. I am just happy to be a part of the conversation, friends! Be well and happy!

Another one that hasn't been here long but who is enjoying the banter on this forum. Cigar forums always tended to come with a macho element that can creep in and taint a lot of conversations. I haven't seen that here yet.

I haven't seen that here yet. I'm also a new member. I think pipe smoking is, at its core, a far more contemplative hobby than cigar smoking. You probably sit alone with your pipe and your tobacco and your tamper and your matches. You get comfortable with a drink. You have a seat and pack and tamp and pack and tamp and pack and tamp again. You put match to the bowl and take a couple lazy sips. You tamp, relight, puff, and then do it all over again. You enjoy the solitude and the sound of the coal munching on the tobacco. I smoked cigars for a while, and I never got that same feeling. It felt much more like a hurried hobby.

Somewhat of a thread drift, but then again maybe not so much... a conversation between Hank and Hoss.

The 'Patch is very much like a conversation, except that when posts get bumped, it's sometimes disconcerting when we see what we said a few months ago!

Right back at ya, Puff-y. I feel the same way. I wouldn't be half the pipe smoker I am without you fellas. Whether it's advice or recommendations or just a place to share my enthusiasm for the hobby. We are all very different people, but we all share a certain something and that something is why we're here. I couldn't imagine feeling this at home at a family reunion. haha

They take the time to think things through with a good pipe in hand, reflect on all aspects of an issue, and reach true enlightenment through a haze of rich dark smoke. Moreover, pipe smokers listen. A rare trait these days. That's why I like coming out here and joining all of you.
