For those of you who put up jars of Ennerdale Flake, what are your opinions on the length of time in the cellar? I put away a jar in November 2017 and wonder if 14 months is long enough? Is there an optimal time period based upon your experiences?

After 14 months is a great time to sample. Opening the jar and introducing new oxygen should reinvigorate any aging process already underway. Please report back with a sample review.

Funny you should ask....we have a test lab with some of the finest researchers in the southwest that meet monthly for fact finding missions..... I second what Baboo says...if age will improve this blend it should be noticeable by now...check it out and go from there.

It will have mellowed considerably. I smoked some recently that I put up in ‘16. A lot of the up front essence was gone. Earlier in the year I smoked some ‘07 - it was really muted. Much too diminished for my tastes.

I didn't think that most Lakeland blends loose any of their essence in aging...but wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.
I know with Bob's Chocolate flake that aged just seems to make it better...and not loose that essence at all.

I have a sample from haveldad and I was surprised at how muted it was. It was the first time I'd smoked it and after all the hysteria I expected something much more intense. Not sure if my assessment was due to aging, airing, or expectation. I really enjoyed it, but prefer Brown Flake Scented - which is supposed to be lighter in the Lakeland department, but I find heavier and generally more flavorful and interesting.

I think he's referring to the monthly pipe club meetings. 😉

IMHO, Lakelands are already well aged and perfect the minute they hit the shelf.
