I've seldom been willing to pay EBay prices for tobacco, not worth it; however, a seller I made a purchase from approximately three years ago sent a somewhat blind carpet bomb e-mail to everybody on his list of previous buyers indicating the party may be over while assuring everybody he could still provide his service without EBay. Somewhat rambling but he indicated his previous sales had basically been scrubbed from the site.
I would personally categorize sales of tobacco ending on EBay as a mercy killing but it's interesting as I've admittedly sold tins before. Without this world-wide venue, it could possibly decrease the value of prized tins for many who've stocked them with the intention of selling.
Interested to hear if anybody else has heard anything?

That's been coming for a while and I'm surprised that those sales were allowed at all given the age verification rules required by the FDA and most state agencies.

Tobacco has never been for sale on eBay. It's collectable packaging that is not currently sold. I've sold over 5K worth of "collectable packing" and "tin art" from my cellar in the last couple of years and most of my big sales have started with a single sale on eBay. It's pretty random and even if you word everything right the bots have scrubbed many of my listings but if you reword the listings most of the time you can get them through. Strangely I had one BIN listing scrubbed after the collectable packaging sold so the buyer couldn't leave me feedback. After you pay the fees I think you can do just as well selling tobacco though a consignment seller like Pipestud. I'm surprised any mail order tobacco is still legal. The only time I've been carded is when I was buying the Hand Blended Tobacco from the London Dunhill shop they made me fax a copy of my ID. When WI lifted the alcohol mail order ban I bought some wine online I had to show ID at the time of sale and delivery.

I've always used a standard template to sell tins without issues; however, I'm also surprised its lasted this long. EBay seller fees are killer and I seldom list anything anymore unless I just want to get rid of it. Guessing the days of e-mail tobacco sales are numbered; fortunately, I'm cellared for life but still like the hunt. It's a hobby now.
